Anyone else heard this ?

My '91 TDM 850 makes a strange wee sighing sound every few minutes.  The bike's been parked up in the garage, vertically on a rear stand, for the last week or so. It's got a half tank of fuel and the ignition is off.

At first I thought it was my imagination, I'd never heard it before, but tonight I traced it to the fuel filler.  It wasn't obvious as my tank top bag usually covers the filler and kind of muffled the sound. Tonight I moved the tank bag and the bike gave out what I can only describe as a "sigh" !

Bloody weird !!   Ghosts, spirits, hobgoblins ….?

NO! Don't leave the telly on during daytime whatever you do, instead of gently sighing the bike will probably hang itself out of despair!

my garage is an old, dusty, olive oil processing building and doesnt have leccy or lights. When i first bought the bike and parked it, i went out to admire it one night with just a torch and i heard this sighing, squeaking noise. I dont mind admiting now that i screamed like a girl and ran out! It still makes me laugh every time i hear it.

Thank F*** for that !  I thought I was going nuts.

But seriously... for a moment... If it's the filler vent, which I accept, what's moving there ?  Surely it's a gas of some sort ?  And it must be going in, because I cant't smell any petrol fumes ?

Can anyone explain what's actually going on here ?

Facetious replies gladly accepted....

I normally hear it when hot ooot, which is just pressure release. Suppose it could always equalise t'other way depending on what's hot n not.

Hmmmm MK1 orchestra? We could attach various wind instruments to fillers.

OK, we're just putting down to flatulence ?

Makes me remember a rather chirpy T shirt I saw a guy wearing.  On the front was displayed the words ... " F*** Off !  If I'd wanted to listen to an arsehole I would have Farted ! "

Quite jolly eh ?   Maybe not the best choice to wear for church ?

To be fair that vicar didn't last that long.
