hi mk2 850 was running rough after washing it.

Thought it might clear took leads off to check and saw coolant in the recess

where the metal coolant  pipe goes into the head.

Is this a common fault??

looks like it has been off before - I will get it hot and hopefully it is just a pipe leak

A common leak happens at the thermostat housing, above the rocker cover. The O-ring degrades and fails to seat properly when it's old.

Could not find a leak last night.

I have dried the pipework engine running now so will see where its leaking.

The allen key bolt has rounded a bit PR must have tried to remove it - it is a pain to get to

The thermostat housing leak will prolly only show when the engine is up to temp and the radiator is full.

Left the engine running fan came on twice but no leak.

Will put it back together and see how it goes.

I was out over Christmas and it was outside in the  cold ice etc so I think it had a mardy.

Might be worth checking the coolant level in the radiator.

Right bike does not have a leak.

The problem was an accumulation  of dirt/grit etc around the coolant pipe on the head.

This formed a sort of soft dam and after washing and with being out in the rain for a few days there was a

collection of oily water.

So when I got home and put the bike on the side stand it poured over the head.

This I suspect is why the bike misfires after rain or a wash, the soft dam held back the water but allowed some

to seep through to the spark plugs. a bit of water would come out the drain holes but a continual amount could

cause problems.
