I have just bought a 1997 4tx1 tdm 850 on new years day whilst coming to a stop on a few occasions the bike has just cut out but starts up fine straight away any advice would be more than welcome.

p.s. only just joined and seem to be a brilliant group will there be any meet ups arranged in the near future.

thanks

Check the idle speed when hot, around 1150 revs, carbs maybe need a clean up or a sync, could be running a bit rich, should only need choke out to start and idle for a bit, could be shoite fuel maybe !! Check clutch cable adjustment, downoad manual from JBX if you dont have a Haynes, sign up is free.

Hi and welcome. :)  The carbs might be gunged up if it's been stood for a good while.  You could try adding some Redex to the fuel see if that improves it.

It could be a number of things and it's difficult to know what the cause is without experiencing it first hand.  Does the problem get worse as the engine warms up ?

Good chance the carbs are a bit gummed up in that case, did it have stale fuel sat in it, get some Redex like Studley suggests (for petrol) and run it through, you might be lucky, another member has had a good result with snow foam to clear up the carbs.

Redex for carbs. :)  Also worth draining off the carb float bowls as water can accumulate there.

treat the bike to some 97ron fuel, I use it al the time to try and keep the ethanol content down.

I also use Millars dry fuel which attaches the water molecules to the fuel and burns it off.

I good italain service should work wonders too
