I've replaced 6 or 7 bulbs in the headlight on my S10 since April when I got it.

I happens randomly

It isn't LH/RH specific, but I think that once one goes (and is replaced) then other side goes

I've tried cheap & cheerful bulbs, I've tried Osram Night Racer 110 bulbs.

Can anyone with a little more knowledge of the electrickery substance offer any tip for investigation...before you ask I have tried to lick it but it made no difference...

Fine vibration. Check all fasteners around the front end. Not necessarily at the headlight area only. Could be wheel balance too that you can't feel but will still crack bulb filament. Hth

I realise bad earth would usually result in a blackened bulb but maybe worth checking? Also the relay? What rating is the fuse for the lights? Has it been changed in the past (previous owner) and is now to high a rating?

+1 vibes

If no vibe problems;

I'm sure you know +% super lamps have a short life often less than 150 hours even when fitted to relatively vibration-free cars

Cheap lamps - says it all.

Try buying a standard output  lamp of a high quality, Osram also do a longlife version H7, (these lamps are same STD wattage but stronger filament = not quite as bright), or visit your local VAG shop and buy STD from them (cheaper than Halfrauds and good quality too)

Longlife Osram (cheaper may be available ) https://www.ebay.co....HHVnRui-AeqtRSw

If you bike is overcharging it will blow the filament - worth checking the battery isn't being cooked too (thinking of an XL125 & a Goldwing Mk1 which did this)

Osram do a bike specific uprated bulb Night Racer;

https://ebay.us/c72YGe

My niner used to blow bulbs about every 6 months so I put one of these in (I think mine was +110 brightness, I know they do one) and I'm just coming up to 6 months so lets see.

Supposedly it deals with the vibration better, which I'm guessing could be worse on a 1200 twin?

Try the owners club and see if it's a known problem with a known solution?
