I fancied a new bike, but Love my TDM wub.gif but I can't afford it anyway. So instead I newerised my bike and tarted it up.

Showroom gleam good.gif

Now don't get me wrong, I've spent hours and hours on it over the christmas holiday...the poor old girl was coming up to four years and deserved a bit of make up and anti-wrinkle cream...and if I say so myself, it looks fan-dabadoosey.

However you should not mistake me for a Cleanaholic. Oh no. I went ridey ridey today, and now I shall just go back to my normal cleaning regime.

Piccys here...

Gotta say I think that looks ace - well worth the effort.

Mines off the road at the moment and like you I can't afford a new one so was thinking of a bit of a make over myself. Where did you get the carbon stick on-stuff from. I've heard that the stuff you can get can be a bit variable?

Does look good. clapping.gif
The yellow strips realy break the side panels up.

I can't afford a new one either but sometimes you've got to say "fcuk it".

Been offered £3400 trade in leaving £2000 on interest free credit. (That's if the interest free happens for next month).

Well the dark stuff is Motrax stuff I put on 3.5 years ago, the titanium coloured stuff along the tank has a different story.

About 10000 miles I notice just a very slight scratching on the side of the tank, where my knee sits, so I thought I would protect that too. I bought some more Motrax stuff.

That was Krap with a capital "K". The water got in and peeled, and i stuck it down and peeled somewhere else. (it was the top PVC layer over the cloth, not where it was attached to the tank.

I've just redone it as part of the make over and bought it off ebay from this guy (he came recommended)...

http://stewartsf1.com/

He was very helpful and chucked in a couple of extra bits FOC. the adhesive is proper 3M graphics fixing. I've yet to see whether I get any issues with the stuff falling apart, but I don't think I will...it looks a lot better than the Motrax stuff.

Incidentally if anyone wants the templates of the frame sides, or the tank sides shapes, I can email you something.

Tin of elbow grease.

Well the bikes done nearly 25000 miles, and I had a new chain and sprocket on there about 1500 miles ago, so the zinc plating was pretty good. I do find that the Turtle Wax polish, seems to dissolve grease and bring a shine to everything - stainless and aluminium too (although i did use Autosol this time round).

I took the wheels off the bike, just making the whole job easier, and I was sad enough to clean the chain link by link (I don't do this as a rule, but it was christmas, and it was that or back to the family in the house unsure.gif ). This also allowed a lot better access all round the swing arm and underneath.

Very nice ET cool.gif , I gave my 03 900 a clean this weekend, but it's not up to the standard of yours. I've noticed some scratching on my tank where my knees grip, so I've been thinking of putting something there to protect the paint from further damage, but carbon fibre isn't my thing. Anyone know of any transparent material I could use to protect the tank and maybe add some grip too?

My black 850 MK2 has yellow striping and only until recently I thought it was standard rolleyes.gif
Anyway, even without the striping I think that 2003 / 25k bike looking so clean makes it as "limited" as it gets cool.gif

In the guitar making world we use a transparent sheet material called Mylar (which is some sort of cousin to Kevlar I think) to make thin scratchplates to protect the laquer on the top of acoustic guitars from damage due to over enthusiastic playing. It comes with a very strong adhesive on the back. It can be floated on using water so reducing the chance of a positioning cock-up. It would protect against abrasion very well but has a gloss surface so would not improve grip. If you think this would work for you let me know and I can send you a sample to try.

Great job ET. I'm about to take possession of an '07 900 with the black frame and need to get some reliable black abrasion protection for the frame. Would you recommend the stuff you have fitted?....Motrax is it, and could I possibly trouble you for a copy of your frame cut-outs?

Hi Guys just got back from Transylvania, I;ve been travelling since 02:30 this morning...well knackered....anyway as regards templates, I've got a scanner and can scan them at the weekend...it might be an idea to leave them accessible to all.

Moderator chappies, what's the best way of doing this...baring in mind we'll need real size printouts?

I'll leave stencils for the tank sides and the front fairing tops (where hand guards could possibly rub) too?
