Ah well, plenty of time to fit a mk2a gearbox then, you may as well go the whole hog :D that's a lot of new replacement parts but i bet she runs real sweet.

Yea it was the engine i meant, you might change your mind once you've painted the rest of the bike though. Keep posting please, it's all very interesting :good:

Aye, was just pointing it out as that's the 2nd place i've seen now offering the service, both in France, for a few more Euros be more sensible to buy a 2nd hand 9r full motor instead.

I didn't coat the cylinders although I probably would have.

I'm hoping that a correct break in will seat the rings in correctly and keep the clearances tight/within spec

And close attention to oil-change schedule...

My single cylinder KLR is very dependent on break in not to be an oil-burner

If the top end ever comes off again I may well nickasil the cylinders

will probably use aftermarket forged pistons too but I'm getting way ahead of myself!

September can't come soon enough

How ya doin TDrummer,

Can ya give us an update please. If the gearbox is working then leave it as it is,  if 3rd gear fails you could then fit the components from a TRX 850 or a 1999-2002 TDM 850 which all have a nicer gearbox action (i think gearbox components from a TDM 900 may fit too,  Dapleb what do you reckon?)  If ya want to you can fit TDM 900 barrels and pistons which are 'ceramic' or 'Nikasil' coated and appear to be very long lasting and they have tighter machine tolerances which is thought to be better then the 850 components.

Can we see some pics. and details of yer KLR 650 please.  Hope yer recovery is going well,  are the Highways Dept. negligent for your accident?

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes.
