As I didn't want to use Gothmog's topic (http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/index.php?showtopic=3682&st=60&start=60) as my ride blog, I decided to make my own topic. Here I'll post pictures and videos of Estonian guys taking their TDM's off the pavement.
Here are links to videos that are already given in Gothmog's topic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_dphgo6DXw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTsnGUCB5zc

And some new videos:

Ride safe, have fun!

A small video of the previous ride:
On the hardest parts of our rides there is never time to take out the camera. This time one guy was crazy enough to come and ride with us on his Kawasaki Vulcan. His clearance was too low and he hit the bottom of engine many times but this guy never lost his nerves and kept going good.gif

Recently it has been rainig a lot, so the grass is really slippery and gets muddy pretty quickly. This time our guest was a guy with Yamaha Supertenere. During this summer he rode alone his bike through most of Europe clapping.gif Though he has never taken his Supertenere to offroad. I promise to teach this guy what his bike is ment for badgrock.gif

Has been some time after my last ride report. Some more videos after a lot of sweat, swearing, some mud, a lot of limestone and fallen trees. Our last ride was a real adv. We were riding in an old limestone mine and when it got dark we were totally lost. Then one bike refused to start because of poor charging and the other one because of lack of gas ranting.gif To get out of the mine we had to climb up some impossible hills and ride through backyards of private houses. We were lucky that no host got out of his house with a gun. Here is the the video (of course the best things happened when it was too dark to make a video):

And an older video that has not been posted yet:

Depending on what one's interpretation of riding off-road is those videos might just as well prove the opposite. In my little world things like "speed" and "not getting stuck" spring to mind, not just foolish bravery of steering a bike from the tarmac that's inheritely unsuitable to achieve just that rolleyes.gif

It shows you CAN....just depends how much you WANT to. biggrin.gif

Best time I ever had on me TDM was using it on entirely unsuitable terrain, the exhileration was enhanced by watching the clenched buttocks of a wee 900 rider infront of me in the same situation, wouldn't have swapped that TDM experience for any of me old crossers. Anyone read the book about the guy who took his goldwing around tut globe? He dragged that thing through some of the terrain, not the most suitable....suuuure....but thats part of the challenge.

This time we had a bit longer ride....it was a whole day of abusing our bikes. We started early in the morning and couldn't stop until it had been dark outside for about 3 hours laugh.gif The ride, the bikes, the weather, the sauna and some beers with good company....what a perfect day.

This weekend I and my friend with a TDM participated in a small 2-day enduro training and riding. There were many different dual-sport bikes...BMW 1200 GS-s, Honda Transalps, Kawasaki KLE 500, African Twin etc. We never had to be ashamed of our bikes and were never left behind others. So TDM is not so bad dualsporter at all.
Recently I installed new chain and sprockets from Supertenere. The rear sprocket is with 48 teeth. What a difference that made when going offroad and driving really slowly...less clutch slipping.

Jonc did you fit a 525 chain or a 520 chain ???? a 520 chain will not last very long on a TDM 850 as the extra torque will wear it out very quickly excl.gif unsure.gif

I installed 520 sprockets and 520 chain. I bought a extra strong chain. According to specs it's tensile strength was about the same as TDM's original. Will see how long it lasts. A lot of riding in mud and sand will anyway wear it out sooner.
