Hi chaps,

First up thanks to all the contributors who have made my reading and decision about buying so much easier. Just became the proud owner of an 09 ABS model with 46 thou on the clock. Has belonged to a mate of mine since new, and he's only selling because he's emigrating. The bike is in mint condition, and has quite a few extras...side and top boxes, touring screen, centre stand, heated grips and a few other sensible mods.

Buying it to try and make it a bit easier for my wife to join me travelling. Have been using a KTM 950 ADV, but its a bit tall for her to get on and off (it is the 'S' version), and a bit hard on the rear. We tried the TDM out before I bought it, and its a lot more comfortable for her, and easier for me with the combined COG being lower. Not too sure if I will keep the 950 or sell her (she is a beautiful machine, but there are already several other KTM plastics in the garage as well...). My first return to Yamaha in many a year, owned lots of them but went KTM when the Japanese all went 4 stroke. Which also means I haven't owned a linkage bike in over 20 years, so I guess that will be a good place to start servicing....wish me luck with the frame collar (actually I'm sure it will be fine because Ian is a pedantic owner and also a long time offroad riding mate of mine).

Welcome and good luck with the new arrival  :good:

Hi Pete and welcome to the forum, the best I've ever had the privilege to be a member of. There's plenty of info on tackling the lubrication of the rear suspension linkage in the Knowledge Base section including some piccies by lil' ol' me. Surprisingly it's under 'TDM 900 - Rear suspension linkage service'. Enjoy!

Riggers.

Thanks for all the welcomes, to answer one of the questions I am in Durban, east coast of South Africa. And the linkage greasing went well, no problems with the sleeve or anything else. Was going to do a shock service at the same time, but discovered the bumber is a bit disintegrated, so will have to order one of those before I strip it down. Nice to work on a bike which has been looked after and plenty of grease in all the right spots.
