Nah, don't lock the car or the motorhome.
Only lock the house if we're both away for more than 2 days.
Neighbours have keys to everything except bikes.
It's why I commute 100 miles a day.
Often come home to find the neighbours dog asleep on the sofa.Attached File  20161119_170521.jpg   86.5KB   0 downloads

When I grew up, there were 4 "securitylevels" when leaving the house:

- Unlocked, noone answering bell = normally back within an hour or so

- Locked but key left in the lock = (to inform a visitor, parent or child) : noone at home, but will return within short

- Locked, key under broom or doormat = away for hours (e.g. at work)

- Locked, key on nail in garage = on holiday

:P

That's how I grew up.
I don't know how others live in such a cold uncaring environment.
We have 3 single pensioners on our street and we take turns to do their shopping and chauffeur them around.
There is no community spirit or sense of responsibility or respect for one's elders any more.

We're not that bad in the 'burbs. Elderley neighbour's husband died last week. Us and other neighbours are going to be watching out for her over the holidays, getting her in for food and drink.

My wife is from a tiny place on the Solway firth.... gets a bit freaked out in big cities.

In my day as a kid the word security was unknown. We did our long bicycle rides, went off to the woods to play, went scrumping, left our bikes outside shops, weren't bothered if we left the doors unlocked. I motorcycled to school and left it with all my kit in the next road (London); sure enough it was there when I returned. Nowadays, I seem to be looking over my shoulder all the time.

These days you have to lock your car doors when you stop at the lights FFS
