Got round to lifting the cams today - 9 shims required ffs.

 

1/10 reusable and I lost one on the shed floor but at least it's not the reusable one.

Just wondering which way the clearances have gone, are  they closing up ?

All tighter Chris. One inlet down to 4 thou (0.102mm).

Fook, see no wonder i'm wary when people say you dont need to touch em after the 1st shim, bleedin clowns, mind Favs you dont exactly ride like a little old lady eh matey :lol:


Bigred mk1 R1 Calipers- Braided lines- Givi wing rack-Crash bungs- Hi vis bullets-PR2's- and a hoot to ride.

Yeah Cliff - shims need periodic inspection & adjustment as they will close up with use - I've not heard of the 'never need to touch em again' malarky. 

I like to make progress when riding, but I don't  :punishment:  these days.

 

All sorted for shims Ian  :good:  - no need to raid TPL etc. store.

 

Yep Chris - that tune was in my head.

Just done the same, checked clearances today, Inlets are 0.15-0.20 & Ex 0.25-0.30 for the mk1

 

2 Inlets @ 0.16 and 2 @ 0.15 , 1 @ 0.18 but 1 @ 0.22 not nice

 

2 EX @ 0.25 and t'others @ .029 and 0.27

Shim job completed this morning after 1 shim decided to use my latex glove as a launch pad and bury itself outa sight = 40mins poking about with a magnet on a stick. Recovered the shim and a cam-cap locating dowel from under the exhaust cam. Cam cover et al tomorrow as luverly n zunny here so I'm orf to make the best of them both. :drinks:
