i've just read that germany is spreading their noise regs to over 81 regions.

Anyone know anything about this as my GPR is baffled but its still loud. I tried to google but not a lot comes back on this.

I read its 80 decibels which is not a lot, mines more 90 ( without a DB meter to confirm)

any thoughts on this?

Being Dutch, living near Germany, and often visiting German roads I know a littlebit about German regulations.

If your motorcycle is definitly too loud, the police will take your bike of the  road.

But I must say, the German police have NEVER made sound measument of my bike (9-er with open airfilterlid, afermarket silencers). Probably some luck, but also I never ride on busy motorcycle roads on briljant wheather days.

If your motorcylce is only somewhat louder than standard or normal I wouldnt think the risk of a fine (or worse) is very great.

If you  where planning of also driving through Switzerland.... Dont, Dont, Dont, really...Dont.

And no, being a foreigner doensnt make any differnce in police enforcements....

In Switzerland the police  are very, very strict. Driving faster than the speed limit wil almost certainly lead to a fine. If you dont drive say more than  km/h above the speed limit. If driving faster.... you will end up in jail. Is is than seen as an enviromental crime, not (only) breaking the speed  limit.

And the Swiss fines are matched with your income and savings. The richer, the higher the fine. A fine of one or two months of income a not uncommon as a fine...

That is why I `dont like Switzerland (although as a country, is looks very nice: the police just arent)

It is a very nice country and amazingly low crime rates, youngsters drink in pubs at 16 and don't cause a riot when walking home. It is a very  respectable place all in all

Looking from that  angle, @fixitsan, you are  correct.

Found that out when touring on my Suzuki GT380 with a 3:1 pipe in 1977. Police at Basel border control said "nein". Pleaded I'd ridden from Edinburgh to see his wonderful country and he gave me a daypass!

Why risk it?

Imagine having to travel back home with a substantial fine and without your bike... :sorry:

You can't really rely on the experience of others. The law is what it is and you may just meet the police officer who has a bad day...

Having watched several German clips on the tube about police controls it seems they go by the noise level in your bikes logbook. Any higher, with some give, and you are fined and not allowed to drive on unless you can make your bike quieter. Most German bikers, including my brother in law, always carries his DB killer on him. Just in case.
Also, if you got two or more non standard bits like air filter and exhaust, even when both are TUV registered in the log book they are still not legal as each ones allowance only counts with an otherwise standard bike. Nuts!
I also know of several Cornish bikers who went to Switzerland and got caught with loud pipes. Bikes impounded they had to buy new exhausts and get them fitted to get the bikes back. Nuts!
Also, it seems not legal to film the police. So watch out with cams!
I moved to the UK 35 years ago and don't regret it one bit!

I checked that out and it doesn't affect my routes.

They are mostly the white C type roads with lots of twists.
