Which? member asked why his AA premium had shot up by £119 (for a car: from £500). He asked how much the brokerage charge was. He was eventually told that it was £200 (!) and that it was previously £45. Which? was told that this was for "marketing....sales...and online activity.. and across the industry new business is heavily discounted..... and was loss making".  Ahh.

I often wondered how much of my money actually went to the insurer.

So, here I am intending to change my insurer, to Bennetts perhaps. Good progress now (£84 + legal), but two issues of note:

    1.   7 years NCD reduces the premium by £19.75. To protect that would cost £10.80. Yeah, right.

    2.   'Riders must be over 75': Oops!  Well, I am ok this year because I just squeeze under that before renewal. Phew! "Next year?", I ask: "As an   existing customer you will be able renew.....subject to the insurer....etc", the nice man says.  We will see.

Insurance is such fun.

......1) The sense of what you have writen implies that the premium goes UP when the insurer reaches 75.....though that's not quite
what you've said........ I'd guess you're now 74........or have I misunderstood?

......2) My experience with Bennets was not good (see previous post, last year) ...in short, my premium went up £160 on renewal,
though I had made no claim (9yrs NCB) nor changed anything with the bike......no satisfactory explanation offered!
.......back with C.Nash now.

.....3) Every year our AA Membership renewal goes up by about £120.......every year I query it, in relation to equivalent cost for new member.....every year am offered a 40% reduction..........not insurance, I know, but same 'loss leader' approach

My thought was that it might be difficult to find an insurer once you are 75...? I'll let you know next year.

And the other issue, well, it seems to me that you can only obtain the best premiums by changing insurer every year. Renewing a policy is not the best, ah, policy. I had a go at Churchill once and got nowhere; I should have moved on.

I had not thought about the AA. I shall have to.
