Hi all. I'm curious which parts are interchangeable from 3vd to 4tx 850's.

I have '98 4tx but I much prefer the looks of the 3vd - specifically the side/nose fairings and headlights. So if possible I'd like to swap these parts for the earlier ones - would this be easily do-able?

apparently it can be done but from the pics. i seen and the procedure i read it would seem a lot of fabrication is required as i don't think the 3VD and 4TX frames are the same.  I wonder if anyone else can shed sum loight on the procedure ?

Hi and welcome.

You'd also need the tank and the seat.  Seen one attempt in the past and it looked shocking tbh.  That's not to say it can't be done but it deffo won't be a simple swap over.

Not worth the hassle in my opinion, if you prefer the 3vd then buy one and sell the 4tx

Ok.
Many thanks guys, I'll put that on the back burner cos there's a long list of more important jobs.
It's a 70k mile bike with no history and the previous owner didn't seem to have much of a clue about maintenance/ set up etc.
No doubt I'll be back regularly to tap your knowledge and experience

like i say it can be done but i suspect it's alot of hassle.  I have seen a TDM 900 retrofitted with 3VD bodywork,  it looked well executed and is the best of both worlds!
