I have a new BT023 tyre 160/70 17, does anyone know if it will fit my 2002 TDM900.

Well it fitted but looked a bit odd so I'm back to the standard size now!

The standard tire is a 60-profile, so a 70-profile will add 16 mm to the height of the tire.
It will probably fit, but better check clearance...
It will but only 8mm to the ride height

The back end would be raised 16mm,the front stays at the same height , so the difference in the middle of the bike is the average, 8mm.
At least, that's what I think DWH means.
The raise at the back will mean the handling will be different. Effectively the steering head angle will be steeper and the trail decreased. This should have a noticeable effect on the handling, turn-in and possibly the stability.
I raised the back of my VFR750 by 10mm by shimming the top shock mount, and that had a noticeable effect, quickening the steering.
The higher back end will also affect the operation of the centre stand (making raising the bike easier) and the angle of the bike on the side stand (leaning it more).

I took it to mean that the tyre has a 16mm greater diameter, but as the ride height is fixed by the spindle being only halfway up the tyre, the ride height is increased by the radius amount, not the diameter amount

So did I, but then I checked it in a tire calculator, and the diameter is actually increased with 32 mm, or 5.1 %, going from 60 to 70 profile. Radius then 16 mm, equalled to 8 mm between front and rear.
I probably should have checked too...... That is a bit of a jump up in size for sure
