Do it on the end of a 3/8 socket and easy to post too, just need a long extension bar.

I assumed it'd be a hex.

Ah I see, didn't realise! I'll bear that in mind next time. Just went out to shed to check the one I can't quite torque, and I'd stood it up in a tub just in case it leaked, and there was prob 3 or 4 drops in there, so better than I'd expected. If this dam rain stops today I'll get it back on bike and hopefully torqued. If not, and anymore oil dribbles, I'll open the top and just pop a few drops in when I can get it back on.

Er scuse, did you read the post up there, trying to help, it's a simple way without special tools.

Bought it a 3 tooth less rear sprocket (39) as a motorway fuel economy device - cruising speed will be about 400RPM less than 42 tooth and a cruise of 260 minutes (Durham to Farnborough) means a theoretical 260x400 =  104000 less revolutions each way. If you divide by 4 (fuel strokes) that equals about 50000 fuel injections less per return trip = it won't take long to get my £15 investment back.....will be fitting it ASAP and reporting a while dafter.

Please - no comment about having to rev harder to get going etc. This is intended as Mway test.

Apologies Dabs, I hadn't seen your post. Must've missed it in the madness. I'd be interested to know what the other end of the broom handle/wood stick looks like!

Dont have a photo but whatever you use you simply need to cut the end into a wedge shape so that it wedges between the flat side of damper rod and the wall of fork lower, this will prevent twisting, if you fit it to a work bench as i did do NOT tighten the bolt through the caliper bolt bracket up tight, just firm as you dont want to snap it, set up like this made tightening those bolts up a doddle..

Edit... i made my wedge approx 2-3" long.

Did that on mine years ago to get the annoying vibration resonance at motorway cruising speed doesn't make any real improvement on fuel consumption. :good:

Did this on my last 2 niners but haven't to this one, don't know why although I don't use it for much distance work now.

Glen, getting them bottom bolt tight is often a bugga, but not with an air gun. I trust you fitted a new copper washer.
