Nasty little ba****ds.........looks like it happens so quickly, there's little chance of getting registration numbers, let alone any form of retribution.

No doubt the police will give them a severe slap on the wrist if they ever catch them.

That's one of many reasons we allow open AND concealed firearm carry in Texas, now we don't even need a license.

We don't put up with that kind of crap.

We can't even carry CS or pepper spray here for self-defence. And if we fight back we can often find ourselves behind bars. It's a topsy turvy world here in the UK at the moment and I see no end of it in sight. We can't even protect our children from imported predator gangs, that's how bloody far we've fallen. I'm sick of it.

OK, but in reality, what could you do in that situation? It happens so quickly, you wouldn't have time to get your firearm out, aim it, and get a shot in........making sure of course, that you don't hit any innocent passer-by in the process.....

Agreed, it might dissuade someone from trying it on, but if you can carry a firearm, then that means the lowlife can do the same.......doesn't bear thinking about.

Surely, the biggest deterrents are

1. Getting caught

2. The punishment in the event you are caught.?

It's a nasty crime, but legalising firearms wouldn't stop  it, I fear, it might just make that sort of crime even more serious.

If it was only motorcycle theft your sarcasm would be well placed Erdferkel, but it isn't. You don't understand the seriousness of this bike jacking problem.

Just a few miles from where I was born a lad tried to prevent his bike from being stolen by a scooter gang and was knifed to death and his dad was badly injured trying to defend his son. Now both of these men were big guys who worked as body guards. And there have been many cases where these gangs use weapons and violence to steal bikes from their owners, often chasing them for many miles.

We don't have that here.

And what little (relative percentage) of thuggery we DO still have is on the decrease since the escalation in serious deportation and criminal trials now.

God bless America, especially TEXAS!

As to ramifications of carrying a firearm for self protection (and, more and more often, protection of others), you have to screw your head on straight, and keep your wits about you.

As to a confrontation going bad, it would be WORSE without a personal firearm for protection. Bodyguards can't stop bullets or knives.

Only a poorly trained (or untrained) person would hit an innocent bystander. Most untrained people carrying firearms ARE the bad guys.

As to punishment for discharging the weapon in self defense - IT'S LEGAL HERE. Yes, even killing an attacker that's not armed with a firearm.

Don't like it? Too bad, it's the LAW. Senseless killings were on the upswing, so laws were changed to protect the INNOCENT.

(and, no, I haven't shot anybody yet)

I don't have the self-preservation skills I should have for a granny because I'm damn sure I'd have dropped the clutch and ridden hard at the first fecker who got off the scoot right in front of the bike.  Sure, it's a bad idea, they carry hammers, acid and knives but I really do think that would be my gut instinct.

BSM and I were coming out of Epping on back roads a couple of weeks ago when we were passed by 7 or 8 twist-and-goes and quads with balaclava clad riders going in the opposite direction.  Within seconds, they'd turned round and were behind us, buzzing around us as we got onto a main road leading to a roundabout.  BSM dropped back and sent me to the front at which point we hastily (but safely) filtered past traffic and took off, getting clear of them.  It was all over in a matter of seconds.  It may have been something and nothing but we weren't going to hang around and see if they wanted our autographs.  We rarely venture into London and we're always on our guard no matter where we are.  I'm even developing a phobia of pizza delivery scoots!

You don't need balls to ride a big bike.

I usually think that discussing politics in a motorbike forum isn't a good idea, and don't want to this time either.

Neither have I ever (AFAIK) made person caracteristics in this forum.

But this was a close shave  :unsure2:

As much as that!

Sadly, the problem is getting worse and will no doubt affect more and more of the county. in my line of work I've even head of delivery drivers, and I'm including van and lorry drivers as well as fast food delivery scooters, falling victim to the gangs of scooter and bike riding thugs.
