Can anyone tell me what type of headlight bulbs a Mk2a 850 runs as standard please, I need to do an upgrade as they're crap but don't want to go down the hid avenue.

Thanks in advance.

H1 is the dip  and  H3 is the main. I'm running Night Breakers (150 % brighter they claim) and very pleased with them.

Oh yeah so it is.

Why didn't I think about that? :istupid:

Nightbreaker laser H1 ordered, will see how long it lasts in a bike, not that I much night riding.

I fitted a main one as well. I do notice you get seen more by car drivers in the day with them fitted as well

still got me night breaker on my bike after 4k miles. didn't bother with main headlamp as didn't want that big transition from full to dipped too intense. riding just dipped is fine with me ATM.

I just ordered for dip for now as that is the mainly used one anyway, trouble is I could only find twin packs so will have a spare anyway, shame they don't both use H1.

As it happens not entirely correct, got my new bulbs today and went to fit the dip one, hang on a smegging minute it's different, it would seem my dip had an H3 in for some reason which is probably why the beam pattern was quite so crap seeing as the bulb is quite a bit shorter.

New one fitted and much brighter with a much better pattern. :good:

On the plus side it means I now have a spare for both sides (I did check the high beam and it is an H3 in there as it should be).

The Headlights on the mk2 really are shockingly poor even with up graded bulbs etc - come winter it's like having two candle lamps on front of bike
Cheap LED sponsor help though

mind you age may play it's part aswell

One day I'll go out in the dark again and find out just what they are like with the new bulb in.... :unsure2: Not if it's cold though.....

They are utterly shite, and not alone in bikes of that vintage, the otherwise fab FZS 600 is also dreadful. Small reflectors in 90s fairing designs play a part.

Anyone done an LED conversion?

I recently bought a 4TX headlight assembly that has been modified and fitted with LED's,  it is not fitted to my bike at present though so i do not know how effective they may be.

I've tried HID and LED in my old 4tx and in my 9er. Both lamps are a massive improvement in brightness. If correctly installed, the beam pattern remains the same as standard = fewer irate other road users.

It's LED for me - the std 9er lamps are also quite poor :punishment:

Which kit did you end up with? Guessing that the 4TX has no need of the CANBUS interface thingy. Was also wondering about space (lack of) for the control unit?

edit (For some reason Safari keeps duplicating text body within same post, having to edit them all at the mo)
