No idea how ya found that vid SR but its just the job! I had planned on cutting into the knob to try and get to the brass thread. . . But that looks like a very neat solution. . . . Then again a blow torch to heat that there solder would be a quicker solution. :-)

Good here the oil valve doesn't turn off the oil. The water valve doesn't turn off the water. Neither that clever when diggin big holes where they run!!

I tried the drilling trick shown in SRs pootube linky dink .... It is way too seized for that. It did lock the threads but the handle just started to rip instead of undoings.

Needed to disconnect, so cut pipe and crimped shut the end for now. Not ed zackery carrotTy but it needed to be sorted.

Does heating oil wax like diesel when it gets cold?  In which case one of those freeze jackets for water pipes ought to block it off while you change the popework, I've used them on central heating water pipes with success.

Sounds about right.

MSDS don't list a freezing point, that in itself might tell you something. :)

Dunno how to change entire valve SR, I would imagine it would need to be empty first! oil off now which was the main problemo. Its goin in the bin. Good idea for oil badgers haaaaa. They can have at it. :-)

Finally sorted this by cutting poipe and tapping. Then dug a barrel sized hole under the valve. Got me 20 agric oil barrels which I meticulously cleaned and can now drain the old tank. :-)

Just gotta work out a nice easy way of making sure no water in drained oil before transfer to new tank...which is the next issue.

The tank valve sits an inch or so up so hopefully that will filter most of it but with new boiler I want to be totally sure that I'm not boogering up a brand new system.

Siphon/pump out from the bottom of the tank into a clear container. Wait for the oil to settle above the water, oil back into tank put water in the kettle and have an infusion.

Boop Boop Boop.

Is there not a plug in the opposite end of the tank right at the bottom?

End on against a fence catte so cannae see oubt. Guess the 760mm thing didn't matter 20years ago!

If there is, it will be handy to drain the last bit oot once its near empty.

I'm guessing it's an old metal tank? I used to replace them some years ago. We had a pump and used it to 3/4s empty then drain from the gate valve. Anything from the rear plug was normally scrap as you couldn't help moving the tank around and disturbing the water a crap.

That it be catte. Will drain from stuck open valve and then hopefully be able to move to expose the plug you mention.

Things don't get done quick round ear. Me noicely thread ended valve attachment was crushed instead of undone when the pipework was transferred to new tank!

I eventually found a neat, simple solution. Took sight glass off valve...rotated valve 180degs and use "push to read" button as an on/off switch....... figured that out in less than two years.
