I bought them from Banggood years ago and split them with another member. The LED units unscrewed (fan separated from body), which was great for fitting - I don't know if they are still available.

HID IIRC was a 55w -  the ballast fitted under the clocks behind the fairing - loads of dry space there.

I'd go LED as they are plug n play, save power for other goodies, start immediately, are whiter/brighter than HID and last well.

The lamps linked below are fitted to my 900 - the metal mounting plate can be positioned to give an accurate focal length - I did have to make some 8mm thick spacers to allow the retaining clip to hold the lamp in place.

You may be tempted........by the price and limited faff. :good:

EDIT had a looksee and thete's plenty of H1, H3 etc available for less than the price of walletbreakers :P

And then the fighting started.........

yup those are cheap.... cheaper than decent halogens,  thing about LEDs is the massive variation in price, you can literally pay 3 figures for certain brands. Whether you get 30x the performance along with the price (vs the cheapest)....

Only reservation was possible lack of room for gubbins (4TX).

How about the standard rubber cap, can it still be mounted? I doubt so with the fan?
Also, if no cap mounted, how about moisture ingress?

On my '99 4tx, with tghe lamps I installed, I kept the caps fitted with no modifications - not so with the '08 900 (minor repairable modifications reqd).

Can you explain and describe, please?

My order is due in a few weeks, and I had to get a packing piece to fit my HID bulb, as explained in this question and answered in the following posts.

Would that mount also fit these LEDs?

I thank you for an answer.

Hi Steve

For the 900.....

This is my solution, which I am happy with - you may wish to do differently for your own bike.

I made 8mm spacers and fitted them behind the mounting ring/plates. I also moved the metal mounting plates to ensure correct focal length (this is when I fitted the spacer). It is a little bit of a faff to get the retaining clip/spring fastened but not onerous. The rubber lamp cap was cut to allow the end of the cooling fan to poke through. I cut mine to allow a superglue reinstatement if I wanted.

8mm thick spacer at red  & I cut the boot to just say allow just the very end of the fan poke through (not right through) at green. I think you may be able to do this differently and maybe better with a little head scratching :) .

HTH

PS Usual rider - what you do to your bike is down to you & I'm not responsible.

Thanks, good to read that should then be fine for my 4TX2.
I just read also from the specification of the bulb the rubber caps can be placed, still (if they fit of course).

On my '99 4tx, with tghe lamps I installed, I kept the caps fitted with no modifications - not so with the '08 900 (minor repairable modifications reqd).

I have bought the (seemingly!) same lamps and tried to fit them.

I have a few questions for you:

- Why did you put 8mm spacers behind the plates ?

- Did your connectors fit the original plugs (mine didn't....)

8mm spacer is to let the clip retain the lamp in place.

I used the Yamaha spacer (number 2 in this image  https://www.fowlersp...060-a/headlight ) to plug the LED lead into - the leads won't fit without the standard spacer. I slipped a small cable tie around this spacer to stop it from separating.

The sequence is

Lamp>homemade 8mm spacer>leads from LED lamp >plugged into Yamaha spacer

I thank you, Favs, for the details and the effort needed to prepare the diagrams.

I think my skinny arms and hands will come in useful on this install!

Yes, that makes sense. I don't believe it - I took out the bulb and didn't realise there was an adaptor fitted to it  ...even if I have actually replaced one as it fried....

Thanks !!!
