It wasn't much, could handle.

Just for the record, Haynes Manual had done a big mistake which hose to remove from the fuel tap, I ended up spilling about 2l of fuel everywhere around garage. I'm not used to things as such so it freaked me out a bit. Still have a headache after all the fumes I inhaled while trying to soak up all the petrol. Though experience is the best teacher.

Another thing, while my bike is stripped, found many places where metal parts rust away.. Can you guys advice me what sort of rust stopping product to use? will touch up with paint afterwards, but it's all, I don't intend to take the frame for a powder coat. Thank you much for help!

When I did some rust treatment on a Fiesta many years ago I used Hammerite Krust and it did a great job, acts as a primer too so you can just paint over it.

It might just be possible that the fuel lines on your bike were put on incorrectly.  Haynes has got it right on this I think.

Possibly. I wouldn't know with my non existent experience. I'll leave it as it was, don't want to get anymore work than I already have.
Though loving the experience and learning how to do things.

Hello fellas.

Can anyone tell me where I can find alternator/pick up coil/neutral switch wiring connectors? I'm using Haynes manual and pic is not clear at all. It's chapter 2, section 5, step 12, if that's any help.
Thanks for help.

With seat and tank off you will find them just in front of the fuel pump and they should be inside a rubber boot.

Thanks Dablik, will be in the garage tomorrow and hope I can find it.

Also, there's "disconnect the earth wiring connector from the main wiring loom". No pics provided on the manual for that, so would be very grateful for directions. I don't really know what this means tbh.

I'm "just" a 900 owner, and my Yamaha shop manual has nice diagrams and work procedures for engine removal and installation, with labels for components and full details of torques and adjustments. I'd assume a similar item exists for the 850.

Do you not have one? I got mine downloaded for free, but I do not remember where from. JBZ's site? Perhaps my Supporting Member status helped. Can an 850 person advise?

I do haynes manual for 850, but it doesn't state where it is, it just says to do it, that is all. Generally that manual is quite good, except this small bit.

Often it's just easier to follow the wires back from the devices. The alternator wires (3 white wires) and pickup and neutral switch wires all exit the left hand engine cover and go underneath the tank area.

Found it all, thanks you guys.
Ran into another prob - can't take the engine brackets off, the bolts are not giving up. Have a heat gun, but heating them up doesn't loosen it. Any ideas how to deal with stubborn bolts? They're allen bolts, if they can be called that.

Much thanks.

You could try tightening them slightly before loosening, sometimes works.

Tried tightening, tried shocking it with a hammer, tried heat gun to make it hot and cool down - none of the tricks worked. Not sure what else I could try..

Spray some lube on them, you can get to both sides on most i think, that's monkey pith, cupla mine went with a good crack, needed a bit of heavy to do it but as dappers says your tool needs to be a good fit or else you'll chew them bolts up.
