As per title. My little 250 quad is very slow to turn over the first time you hit the button but as soon as it fires up it is fine the rest of the day.

The starter will spin it over no problem.

I immediately replaced the cheapo battery with a new Exide one but it is exactly the same and after 2 days charge the optimate  it saying the cheap battery is fine.

Is the starter on its way out. It is Yamaha Timberwolf so its a very old quad.

Hi Sam.  I'm not an egg spurt with 'lectrickery but wonder if it's worth checking the starter motor bushes, could be worn.  Also check the condition of the wiring and terminals.

Starter motor brushes :good: Now on the way back from work (You'll be to early at 6.00am) call in at Gary Phillips and he'll stock what you want on the shelf...I used to use the Yamaha ones on our Honda quad bikes as it was the same brush set, but If i remember correctly there was wire colour difference, but I think you'll find this will cure it, and the commutator will be in good nick! :good:
