Had a Honda Pan euro ST, done 56K, no service history, in to have a look at with very nasty noises in the engine hard to select gears, Dropped the engine and took the back cover off and......

Alternator bearing carrier sheared and bits o metal gone doing nasty things in the engine. Engine is dead so fitting a new engine from Lings Honda, brand new with a stripped thread in the engine mount 950 squids bargain,  just a M12 x 1.25 timersert to fit and we are back in business. 

 

Owner bought bike recently and is gutted but better than a scrap bike.

Still blinkin expensive Lee, and considering he only bought it recently, well i would be gutted..

and here is the major surgery needed to get it out. had to use a crane. The engines weighs a ton is very tight in the frame and is very complex,sensors all over the shop. I'd much prefer a TDM. Told the owner TDM's are nice simple and cheaper to run.

two men can't pick it up. used a two tonne engine crane. As big as a car engine. No wonder the bike weighs over 300 Kg.

 

Usually with regular oil changes,they do 150,000 miles with few issues. New alternator costs over £1000, but new engine already has one fitted.

I'm not looking forward to putting the new one in.

Man size project that one Lee :good: and a result with the engine from Lings :badgerrock:  cant help but think that bearing must have protested a bit prior to the previous owner selling it...the bastid ;)

Cause was blocked oil jet from someone using too much instant gasket on cam covers.

:good: Many moons ago I had the same on a Toyota pick up, the camshaft seized and the cause was the main oil gallery in the top of the block had a grub screw with a very small restriction hole in it and instant gasket done the same!

well done me younger brother for locating the new engine. It's one of his mates in the Pan Clan who bought this pile of trouble.

They are a nice and reliable usually if the Pan Clan are to be believed.

 had an st1100 , it was the rear diff that gave up on me , cracking engine , plenty wind protection, shite brakes , fecking heavy if you dropped it
