Hi.
Just bought my 1st 850. A 95 3vd. Hoping it will be my winter and back up bike to save my b12 bandit from further winter rot.
Having a few teething problems though.
Bought it from guy who rebuilt it over a couple of years. Was good for price, but a few bits need sorting.. and a couple of issues now apparent.
But the one thing I cant find is a sump guard. Can anyone suggest a place? Or could someone do me a fibreglass copy so I can get one made up?
Guess I'll be on here a fair bit 😀👍

Hi and welcome Kal. Can't help with your immediate problem, but if anyone can, they'll be along shortly. Rest assured, you're in the right place for anything tdm related. Good luck with the bike.

Hola and welcome!  Tdm's were more popular across the water,France,Spain, etc. I'm in Spain and I have seen several ads with complete bikes being broken. If you dont mind paying a bit of postage you should have no trouble locating a sump guard and other things.

welcome, Its taken me a few years to find a sump guard.

they'll turn up eventually, just need to be patient. It doesn't affect the bike other than aesthetics though

Cheers guys.
Sadly no, not really! It wasnt perfect on test ride but gir money it was fine. Pulled right, no noises, went round corners etc. I'm used to bandits and fzs...
After a week it developed a massive slump and misfire. It's been in a shop over a week. They've cleaned the carbs and done the shims. Its feeling better than it was but now has a massive flat spot all across 2-3k in all gears.
Problem is I've git so many reasons it could be. The pipes arent original theres no collector box; the carbs arent the right year so mo idea if filter needles jets etc are all sorted to work together. In which case was it fluke that it was running ok for the week. ... grrr 🥴
Biggest problem is nowhere to work on it and a much reduced confidence in my mechanicing skills over last 15 years... which is costing me a fortune 😱

Hope so. For the price it was fine. Expected to do some work on it and only have it as a backup bike... but daily it's getting so everything needs looking at. Now fork seals have blown...

The 3VD has a flat spot around 2,500 RPM - also when 100%  healthy. It's really noticable in a 2-300 RPM range.

Worth chicken air box rubbers are not hardened/poorly fitted. Specially if carbs been off.

You could try running some Redex in yer fuel see if it helps.  It does clean the carb internals over time.

Not all 3VD's have a flat spot imho, well, mine doesn't.  If the carbs are off a mk1 then they're all the same, mk2 carbs are different though.
