Your original oem lines are braided but 19 years could certainly have them knackered, hopefully new lines will sort the issue.

Well I hope they will cause I really don't have the time & mental capacity right now for starting the whole thing all over with a different bike. I work in healthcare...

In the end i changed them, but. I rode it like that for a while too and it passed the MOT easily on front braking force anyway.
But the new braided lines were an improvement for sure.
After reading this thread I tried to see about using one finger on the brakes and yes, they're definitely good enough for one finger use. I have large hands and big fingers though
I don't have much else to compare the TDM to to be honest - a KTM620 with a large single disk front brake is my other bike and that stoppies on demand(although only weighs 148kg). I know a TDM can stoppie, and I would say the front brakes with new braided hoses would make it possible, but it's on the heavy side for me to feel confident enough to try it, and at 17 stone in weight myself i would probably bend the forks !
