I had a small fuel leak from my drain pipe and i thought the drain screw wasn't tight enough. But When i tightened it, fuel started streaming out even faster. It is screwed in a lot more than the other drain screw which leads me to believe that it was over tightened and something broke. i blocked the drain hose and nothing is leaking but i'd like to find a permanent solution. Do i need a whole new float bowl cover? I've looked but all i find is either gaskets or a whole new carb. Anyone have any ideas?

Put a post up in the wanted section as you'll be extremely lucky to find a float bowl for a mk1 for sale on ebay or the likes. It's easy to overtighten the screw which then cracks the float bowl, done it myself in the past, as have others on here.  If it's not cracked then a new drain screw might work after you've given the drain hole a good clean.

If you can't find one, might it be worth seeing if a friendly garage with a TIG welder could seal the crack up.

Not sure if that's possible, but might be worth looking into if replacements are scarce.

The crack (fnarfnar) usually runs along the threaded part where the drain screw, screws (chorkle, chorkle) so I imagine it'd to be difficult to weld Nog.  It's also pot metal shoite.

Fair enough, I just thought it might be a way out if possible.

Hope you find one then - might be worth looking for whole carbs too then, in case someone has a spares/repair that you could pinch the bowl off.
