Was tempted to get the 500 version for £75 (slightly better value at 15p/Gb), but decided to leave it until I'm desperate for one, the pricing trends of electronic goods being as they are. wink.gif

Similar deals are available elsewhere - the good thing about the Maplin one is that the drive boasts a 5yr warranty. tup.gif

£105.45 with postage, but still a tad cheaper, I agree. External mode suits my situation though I take your point about internal tending to be preferable.

Apparently all Seagates have a multi year warranty....but if you read the small print there is a get out clause that after x months they have the option to refund just the current market value rather than fix/replace. As you have already mentioned.....in the electronic market after x months this approximates to bugger all.

Take note, I'm claiming a new world record for fucking up a brand new 500GB hard drive.
Less than 2 mins from opening box, to expensive paperweight.

It seems that report of drive death was premature. I dropped the drive as SATA Data cable was fitted, breaking the plastic plate/backing the pins. So thats why I thought I'd killed it.
Turns out the drive was not formatted.
