Other than the cost which I am told is significant, are there any big advantages/disadvantages of these types?

I was hoping there would be lots of info on the goggle but struggling a bit and know there are some buildy peeps on ear.

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

Active member of TPLQHCSRSFC and TSRMCMAS (even though a year off) and avid fan of PM not sent.

Done properly, block & render will be far cheaper - looks OK too

 

Cotswold stone will be very expensive - best only done if you want to match something

 

What are you building Dappers ?

Ta sidey appreciate yer input. I had heard big price diff. But was wondering if any major quality difference.

Building a single story "extension"...which is basically a kitchen as current kitchen is a cupboard with an oven in. Tishabelle bored of me saying "I'd love to help but there's no room". Plus oil be able to get the boike to the sink when it needs a rinse. :-)

What is there at the moment downstairs is rendered but top story Cotswold stone. Not much of it will be visible to us so think probably brick or rendered will be the way to go.

The block & render will be fine then.

 

Invest the money in wider cavities, 100mm thick Celotex or Cooltherm PIR insulation sheets, underfloor insulation & triple glazed windows.

 

And DON'T have a flat roof - they look shite & don't last as long as a pitched & tiled roof   :good:

Haaa glad to hear you say about flat roof. We were told we might have to go that way as main drain out the back...despite Waterboard saying there wasn't one!!!!. Waterboard didn't know where it was .... So I ended up digging a massive hole to find the burger!!!!! Can JUST get pitch for tiled roof and miss drain by allowed distance.

Ta for insulation advice. Might have a few more quessies along the way if thats ok sidey. :-)

....................not relevant to anything I'm immediately planning, but interested whether that comment relates simply to the slope,
thus drainage, or to the surface material.......and presumably 'pitched' = sloped........not ^ .......?
