If you had £5000 to spend on a 2nd bike (keep the TDM), what would you buy?

Second thought...why buy the mountain bike? I think I would spend my £5k on the trailer and buy days off work to enjoy the TDM more!

The way i see it is FZ! pros
Better performance
Nicer looking?
4 cyl - never had one
Reasonable price for year
9er pros
I love TDM's
more bike and accessories for my money
Know more about them
And Carpe of course
TBH the FZ1 is available in better colours
but for the same price i can get an as new TDM with luggage, and many other extras
I really am torn as i only know TDM's (had 2 and nothing else) not having owned anything else, i keep wondering if thats the main reason i love the TDM
Will i love an FZ1 more?
will i hate it?
will i love something else even more?
The only thing i'm pretty certain of is that i wont find a community like Carpe, so is it a case of better the devil ya know?
All i know is i need cake at the mo

Go ride a 900. Then come back and see what you say. The Mk1 is not the same bike. When I got mine I thought, it would be the same, nope different bike altogether. Ive been wanting to spend my money burning a hole but keep coming back to the niner, why change something that works?
Or a Tiger, 1050, That might sort you out

I have had the Fazer1000 on an '03' plate.
It was...........
Fast (I mean REALLY quick)
Forgiving (Frame and set up means you'll find yourself riding outside your box. It'll catch you out if you ain't thinking)
Furious (Acceleration is unreal compared with the TDM, it is a detuned R1, but I find the TDM a more usable power)
Good Looking (I had a yellow one. It always got comments in the car parks)
Try one but the main reason I got rid was that I was getting to be the thing I hate on a bike. HOOLIGAN. Didn't give a monkeys where I overtook. The Fazer would go. Everywhere at 90mph. Not a good place when you rely on your licence for work It was getting to be a real licence loser. Take one for a spin but you will have to uprate the rear as the spring on the OE shock is really poor when a real man is on it!

I get the impression you want summat with a tad more presence, for the Wed evening bike meets for example.
With £5k you might get a black, with black engine, 9'er

I'm just speaking personally here and fully accept that others have different ideas, but something very quick will actually get a bit boring to ride regularly. Bear with me on this...Having ridden some extremely fast bikes on the road in the past you'll find it takes a lost of self restraint to keep the speeds down to sensible (I don't mean to the speed limits) and I found when riding like that, it does actually get boring, depite the awesome performance on offer. You always feel as if you're only riding at about 30%. The most fun I've ever had on a bike is riding something with reasonable performance that isn't going to lose you your licence (or worse) every time you wind it open and spunky enough to keep it fun.
f you haven't had a 4 pot bike before, you'll like the smoothness and power and maybe not warm so much to the lack of character from the engine (I nearly wrote blandness, but there's no way you could call a GSX/R1 type thing bland. The engine characteristics are a bit sterile, though, compared to a twin).
Sorry to rabbit on a bit! The 900 is a lot different to the 850. At the end of the day, it's what suits YOU that is most important.

Before all that though, I'd decide exactly what I wanted the bike for.

Spend the rest on getting it Ivanized (re-jetted, filter & airbox modded) to take out the flat spot, & get the suspension sorted
You'll then have the equivalent of a totally mad 160mph all purpose rocketship ( you'll need a good visor to keep the flies out of yer teeth with all the grinning you'll be doing)
And the silver ones are the fastest .............Must get mine put back together
The older I get, the better I was96 MkII in yellow & silver with bluespots, braided lines, Remus 2 into 1, Hagon rear shock & fork springs, bashplate, heated grips,Motech pannier racks, Road Attacks, Jockoiler, Baglux tank cover & bag. Gone to a far better place - hasn't it Remo?
Another 96 Mk2 in yellow & silver - absolutely standard & pristine ( apart from a butchered rear mudguard - but I'm looking for a new one
'76 Suzuki GT500 Stroker in need of a rebuild
'80 Yamaha XT250 mudplugger
another '81 XT250
'91 BMW R80GS - this one really will do a RTW trip
'05 BMW K1200S - inline four with a shaft
'10 BMW R1200GSA Anniversary Edition
'02 Fazer 1000 - 4 carbs are better than 2 ! - water pump rebuilt by Mr Ramrod Engineering
'00 Triumph Adventurer - Cruiser with a difference - British & a tripleGary's Bathtub - '99 BMW K1200RS in luvverly pillarbox red . Now been Waspycycled to Nuneaton
And the Latest Addition - a nice BMW G650 XCountry greenlaner - on long term loan to Boy Wonder
1996 Kawasaki KH125 Stroker
2000 TDM Mk2A - nicely Studleyfied - Modified by Masterbrewer, but we've fixed that now !
BMW K1300R
2004 TDM 900 in Silver/Blue - heated grips, MRA vary screen, Wilbers rear shock & engine bars to fit
