Whats the general consenus of opinion on weather a helmet like this
http://www.lidl.co.u...index_18748.htm
is suitable?
I was thinking that for it to be sold it must pass some test or another, which all helmets must pass inc. Shoei etc. But the main difference would be the 'feel' of the helmet as you raise the face.
You know the arugment BMW vs. Ford Ka. They're both road safe cars, just that one is more luxurious and built like a tank.

I am always in the mind of how much you value your head? Then compare that to the price's.

But you want to know how safe is safe! And a dearer helmet is not necessarily safer than a cheaper one - for example the Shoei XR1000 at £295 RRP gets 3*** but my Bell M1 at £165 gets 5*****

may make some of you want to change your helmets if if gets red ratings for any protection (like side protection for the SHoei mentioned above)
you would need to know make and model of aldi/lidl models and then compare
TDM 1991 - two into one micron mated with a A16 Road and Race Supplies Stainless short can - Conti Road Attacks - Kagazume Wavy Rear Disc - Bagster tank cover - homemade sheepskin seat cover on top of custom seat cover - NonFango topbox on homemade mount - custom fusebox - very loud airhorn and cyclone alarm

Umm....If SHARP ratings are to believed, price is no gaurantee of extra safety.
As I see it any direct impact at over 30 is going to cause truma to the brain. The only reason to wear a helmet is weather protection, stop your eyes watering, protect you from flying objects, and in the event of an off stopping your skin being abraded. Buy something thats comfortable

here are details of their testing procedure and they have no axe to grind and are independent of manufacturers -
For every helmet model, we run 32 tests on seven helmets across a range of sizes – assessing how well each helmet could protect the brain in the event of a crash. To ensure the validity of our assessment, we only test helmets that we ourselves have purchased from retail outlets. It is important that the helmets we test are the same as those you would buy yourself.
We then go to work, testing each helmet by impacting them against anvils to represent flat surfaces and kerbs. SHARP tests are carried out at three different speeds to ensure the helmet provides good protection during both high and low severity impacts. Despite the risk of injury being much lower during less severe crashes, even a small risk could result in riders being seriously or fatally injured.

Personally I wouldn't go to Lidl or Aldi for anything as vital as a helmet, have got odds and sods from them tho'...
One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humilty, kindness, empathy and truth.

"The one you feed" replied the old man...

The drop the helmet onto something hard a minimum of 32 times.
From 3 different heights with a maximum speed of 8 metres a second, which converts to around 18 mph.
What they aren't doing is throwing a flip front down the tarmac, face down, at 40mph.
Which, TBH, if I was chief tester, I'd be putting that at priority one.
We can guess that flip fronts will fail hugely at this kind of test. The question is, which one will fail the hugest/hugeist/ hugeiier?
Can't see the aldi helmets holding up in real world conditions tbh. I regard the SHARP tests as an unreal test.

Personally if you come off at 70 (which 40 miles of my 50 mile daily commute is) I rekon a £40 helmet is gonna do just as much as a £340 helmet.
Its not gonna be quite and probs aint gonna be comfy either, but I think I might get one just to try it out, ill review here once there on sale and let you know what its like.

I had an expensive Nolan lid and gave it a complete test (ploughing my head in to an Abar of a car at 30kms). The lid had not got a scratch on it and the Abar was nicely rounded off. The bike was wrote off.

As long as Mr Bump doesn't join the party ...
And as my wife is a Chiropractor the neck and back are always to be of interest.

Was thinking same thing. I won't buy a bike jacket w/o decent back protection.
