Mrs CB and I were happily winding our way to work, when, with no traffic coming the other way I made a side road into a chicane

Exhibit A

When at 50MPH and flicking from right to left, bang, scrape, wobble and a distinct smell of melting rubber.
As I slide to a halt I'm thinking collapsed wheel or broken swing arm.
Oh no, no such luck for yours truly.
We get off and this is how it looked.

So, up on the centre stand and OMG, this is not going to be cheap

The two little lugs on the frame have snapped clean in half.
The only thing that saved us was the centre stand acting like a pair of skids.

Exhibit B

Anyway, we got recovered back home and a strip down will ensue shortly.
Failing a repair, it looks like I is going to need a new frame.

Blimey, good job you weren't in the middle of a bend !
First thoughts are; did part of the linkage seize thereby transferring load directly to frame lugs ?
I'd be interested to know the outcome, just cos I'm a nosey bugger mind !

second look
it looks as though the left side of the lug (in picture) has been broken a while and the right side has just given up.
there is some wear on the inner face of the right hand lug and damage at the top, which might indicate a problem that has been around for a while.
Is this a bit of the niner that gets a regular check / lube?
Apart from everyone on here this weekend I mean?

Good save - not sure I would have kept that upright, especially two up!

Had a nasty experience in my Landy on Monday when one of the rear wheels locked up (brake shoe disintegrated) at about 50mph, luckily there was a soft verge...
Magic

The bike is faster than the eye or the hand.

Reborn MK1 - rubbish exhaust, dirty engine, missing bolts, missing mirrors, leathal rear tyre, crap carbs - but it doesn't ground out like my old CB750 Custom used to do :-)
Now with DL650 handguards and Garmin Sat Nav

Should do really, but I lubed it 6 months ago and thought I need to ave a look at that on the weekend, then forgot by the time I got home.
Not that looking would have prevented it happening though.
I suppose I could say it's my own fault really, the roads around my locale are awful and I don't slow down or activly try to avoid pot holes or raised iron works( should have an XT ), and I am 2 up most of the time(30 stone).
All that said you still don't expect that to happen.

Yeah I think you are lucky to get out from this in one piece. Anyway, can this damage been repaired or you will go for a new frame?

Ouch!

On the other hand, you've just invented the Yamaha DN01

A friend of mine recently noticed his Multistrada sub-frame had sheared; despite it being well out of warranty, Ducati agreed to provide the replacement parts for free... you should get onto Yamaha about that.

Glad you're both ok. Lucky you've got the centrestand otherwise I guess the sidestand mount would have touched down first and thrown you to the right.

Lucky you're ok - good.gif .......I'm with munchkin, my first thoughts were the linkage is part seized - these need taken out and cleaned/greased in UK salty conditions, a lube from the outside won't penetrate (if you pardon the expression wub.gif )

A good ol' mud-flap and grease-nipples would have prevented that from happening. Then again, modern bikes aren't build to last and every penny that can be saved from manufacturing-cost counts. dry.gif I am still shocked (excuse the pun) though to see this and other (850) shocks snapping, even Buell has the decency to recall and investigate this sort of issue (on the 2nd recall shock on my Buell laugh.gif ).

Thanx for your concern everybody, but it wasn't that big a deal really, I rode speedway/grasstrack for 14 years, thus I am used to being out of control.
(That sounds more big headed than it was supposed to)
I do realise it could have turned out a lot worse, and luck did play it's part.
As for the fix, well, I have a plan but think that I will contact Yam UK before proceeding too far as I will need to take a grinder to the frame to remove whats left of the original lugs.
Thanx again guys
Will keep you informed on how this plays out.

I agree with the post above - take it to your local Yam dealer and starting making noises about not fit for purpose

Yam may well cough up a new frame as good will gesture
I'm sure they don't want any bad publicity about cracking frames in MCN (who mentioned GSXR1000K5)
