Abs, traction control, linked brakes, fly by wire throttle - bloody hell, with that lot, it won't even need a rider!

Lovely looking bike, but weighing in at 261 kg and having all those "rider aids", I can't see me swapping the niner for one, whatever the price.

Hummm, have they done a Honda? We'll know in a minute provided the Yamaha site don't crash blink.gif

Headlights look a bit out of place I think, and if the engine/crank cases are based on the 9ers then the zorst is gonna make an oil filter change needlessly arkward.
Also think the twin silencer mock ups looked far better than a single exit.
Specs dont look overly impressive either and only 190mm travel front and rear, won't take much to bottom that out if you take it off road.
Been looking forward to this for about 18 months now and TBH I'm pretty undrwhelmed, that said, I've got a 4 hour test ride booked when they get one in at my local dealers, maybe/hopefully I'll be proved wrong because I really want one of these.

That'll be interesting to have a direct comparison with the niner when you get your ride CB - and pics, of course!

edit
That 261 was quoted and oiled and fuelled

Hasn't swayed me from owning the 9'er and still leaves me with the yearning for the XT660Z as a second bike.

However, Yamaha now have a 1200 twin based on the TDM engine, so hopefully in the future there will be TDM1200.

Doesn't say what the seat height is - I usually find these things too tall, the 9'er is at the upper limit of my inner leg rolleyes.gif
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Says it's adjustable between 835 - 860 mm

while a height-adjustable seat (845-870 mm) and adjustable screen let you set your riding position and wind protection for maximum comfort.

Nice looking bike, seems to be yams stab at the bmw r1200gs market. Far too heavy for serious off road use (R1200gs is about 229kg wet this weighs about the same as an r1200rt tourer!) so why the 19inch front? Surely this will be a compromise on the road which, i imagine, will be where most of these will spend the vast majority of their time. Looks like another tourer dressed in off road clothes ah-la aprilia caponord, honda varadero, v-strom etc.
Don't think it will do the tenere name justice (in an off road/adventure capacity) just hope its good on the road.

Yeh you can bet yer last Ł1 that there will be a TDM 12 out in 18 monthsWhen I have one for the day if it has dual purpose tyres on, I'll be taking it greenlaning for an hour to see what it's like off road.

Looks good. Need to see it in the flesh though. Only things putting me of are the weight - only a ride will tell how much of a problem that is, and the spoked wheels. Otherwise I'll take one in blue please rolleyes.gif Anyone heard the price in the UK yet? A TDM1200 would be nice though. BM do the GS in Adventure and standard flavours, here's hoping Yamaha do the same. good.gif

I can't afford both so the TDM has gone and I have the XTZ. Both are good. I miss the (relative) power of the TDM, but I love the XTs riding position, and fro back lanes (where I prefer to ride) it is really good. I would give both 8/10, but for what I'm doing the XTZ is a postive move for me.

Oh and its lighter than the TDM...let alone 261kgs of the Super Tenere.

notice the oil capacity, 4.2ltrs which is the same as the MKII and 900 i believe. So i assume it is based on the 900 lump somewhat.

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

I loike tay and hang sangwiches !
