Just in case anyone is interested, I make guitars as a hobby...............it seems to me that TDM's, oldies and guitars all go together rotflmmfao.gif rotflmmfao.gif
If you're in the area and want to call in for tea and cake, give us a shout! I'm not sure I can keep up with the likes of Moose though! laugh.gif good.gif

This is just some of what I'm up to.

well that's a fine, skillful hobby you've got there. Do you make the necks as well?

I play for my own entertainment and occasionally jam with friends. It's a form of meditation for me and takes me out of my grey moods for a while. I was really worried that my recent wrist injury would be the end of my playing, but to put that to bed I forced myself to pick up my acoustic and learn a new song (Wichita lineman). I can't quite angle my wrist to make a lot of shapes I used to, but it's good enough. I've been looking at baby Taylors and other small bodied acoustics as a way of helping me move the body easier to make the shapes, but I can't afford one at the moment.

I'd love to have a look at your workshop and guitars one day smile.gif

I agree, Mark, that guitars and TDMs go well together. Not least, because IMO both represent the philosophy of under-statement and over-performance of Yamaha. (not sure if this applies to the ST1200 mind - haha!). They also allow us to play at something which is challenging, satisfying and keeps us oot-the-way of the missus.

We now have a few Yamaha guitars in the house and, just like the TDM, each does "what it says on the tin". Take them out the box and play, and keep on playing. Just like the bike.

Not got any footage of me own, but I used to occassionally play along with my sons and here is one of them, now concentrating more on acoustic work, and also plays Yamaha.

http://www.jameskell...co.uk/index.php

If you enjoy his work please let him know as he would welcome comments and has an EP coming out soon (shameless plug)

It would be great to see your workshop some time - I was knocked out by Te Deum's on the Ireland RTT08.

I will bring the cake, thumb-pick and a capo.

All the best

Pete

p.s. Muddy - I only have lickle hands and enjoy playing 3/4 size guitars. I have an Applause (Ovation) Traveller round-back, which is dead easy to play and you are welcome to have a try/borrow some time if you are in NW. Also got a cracking little Fender nylon string - cost about £70 and dead easy to play.

Muddy........Yep I make necks too...it's not as hard as you might think. As soon as you've got the taper of the neck /fingerboard right it just seems to appear in front of your eyes. It's hard to explain until you've done it. I must say it is something that I agonised over for a long time before I did it, then after all that it was easy! The real trick is getting the binding right. If you've got eyes for a small guitar sometime, I might well be able to make it! You'd be very welcome to visit anytime! The kettle is always on tongue.gif

Pete......bring cake, thumb pick, and capo anytime!! As for James Kelly, wow he's just summat else! Love to see and hear young talent.

Here's my little excl.gif workshop!!

Mark, I will send you a PM, as Leicester is possible coffee/cake/jam stop en route to/from BMF later in year

Recently treated myself to new Yamaha nylon string (CGX101A) and realised every single note is important played on a classical, and I need to ditch the thumbpick and grow me thumb nail!!! (bass notes sound too loud)

Look forward to seeing you in future

all the best

Pete

p.s. Glad you enjoyed the JamesKellyAcoustic stuff - he gets it all from his Dad (haha) , except I knew he was way better than me when he was aboot 13 (he's now 27)!

BMF show is in Lincoln not peterborough this year so will not get chance to do an enroute visit. However, I am trying to get a chance to go to ACE cafe some time amd Leics. can be on the way..........

BTW - James did a bit of launch gig for his EP last week in Machester - great stuff.

if you like the James' EP "Lost", please buy it - I think he needs the money

Pete

p.s. On the same bill was George Borowski ( apparently, the 'guitar george' menioned in lyrics (Verse 2) of Sultans of Swing ) - he was a hoot

I'd have been honoured to call a man such as him a friend.

Always used to go and have a chat when I saw him play. Always had time

Was horrible talking to him after he broke the news.....I couldn't hold the tears

Idlebloke - thanks for introducing me to this amazing guitarist - I am so delighted. I'm sick of all my current (old) music and was looking for somthing new. So I went to Google where I could go see him and I am gutted to see he has passed on....his music i reckon will outlive us all.
Cheers, APW

Have you ever lent someone 20 quid and never seen it again? It was probably worth it.

Long Loved TDM is no longer with me...

Pleasure APW. Just sorry that he is not around anymore and none of us can have the pleasure of seeing him play again or meeting him.

After his death I tried to obtain this DVD "Eric Roche in concert at The Electric Theatre (DVD) - 2003 (Inner Ear Music)" listed here http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Eric_Roche. It had a limited run and I emailed the people that looked after his site many times (site no longer exists unfortunately) and was told they were hoping to produce more, but I don't think it ever happened.

It looks as tho' some of his stuff is available on Amazon and I am sure that there are torrents out there as well. I will quite happily download the majority of my music, but in this case am more than happy to pay with the hope that at least some of that money will go to the family he left behind.

TeDeum may know a lot more about this than me as he was a friend of his. If anybody at all (TeDeum???) can help me get a copy of the above mentioned DVD I would be extremely grateful. I am positive that there are no official channels available anymore. I would be more than happy to send money to either his family (if possible) or a charity? Wouldn't know if Eric had a favourite one himself, but....

(Just been looking at TeDeums website again. I wanna go and live where he does!! Plus having a background in wood as well........)

Any of this is of course just a substitute and cannot replace the pleasure of the live shows

Apologies to OP and others for this hijack.
