Hello lovely people :) 

 

As the weather was soo nice on Sunday, I decided to brush the dust of me TDM. 

 

Started first time on the button, with a tad of choke, and it soon warmed up to temp, gave a couple of revs, some crap out of the back, but no jumps, no splutters, no flat spots, ticked over lobely jubly. 

 

Checked all lights, charging figures, took it down the road, to make sure gearbox all good, made sure brakes worked and not sticky, all worked beautifully. Couldn't go far because of me bald tyres, but these are on their way!! TREVINIIIIIII!!!!!!!! 

 

However, rear brake light does not work when using front brake, but using back brake, it comes on, so of course not the bulb. Am I to assume straight away this will be the front brake light switch? Could wiring be an issue?

My front brake switch was sticking, the little plunger that is held on by the lever was mucky and had led to excess heat which had melted the plastic meaning it didn't slide properly, quick clean and file back to shape and no problems since.

I had the same issue as Panty, opened the switch up and it was full of gunk, worked fine after a clean.

1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now :(
2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.

My case TDM 850 - 2001-
When I bought the bike 3 years ago, was in trouble as your motorcycle. When activated the front brake taillight gave no sign of life. First I reviewed the wiring and plug and found nothing. I cleaned and lubed the switch but did not solve the problem. So I had to disassemble the switch, sanding and adjust internal copper contacts. Bingo, it worked satisfactorily and remains today lighting normally.
PS: Forgot to say that when taking it apart, the inner spring flew part all sides. Has a small black plastic peg which serves as latch to the other parts. He disappeared and I was looking for 2 days. The thought at the beginning of the grass in the garden, at 2 meters from where I had disassembled the system. So dear friend, is not an animal with 7 heads, but be careful with the spring to take it apart. It is a break delicate head. But nothing that a little tact and patience can not solve.
 
Please stop messing with hands over this nauseating keyboard. :punishment: 
Now get to work and fix this switch. :clapping:
And do not scratch the tank with tools. :drinks:

MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

Gentlemen do not know if this is the correct place to express, but I think should stay here, so do not miss the link to the site where the incident occurred.
This case was not the almost total ignorance of the English language.
The blame is not the translation via google
But for lack of zeal and a little more attention when expressed in a forum.
We have to remember that the discussions become public and boundless frontier.
First I inform you edited the italicized phrase in blue on post nº4 :hide: 
Honestly I see that now corrected it becomes more sociable.
The reason was a word used at the wrong time and the wrong place. A word that does not really reflect my way of expressing socially in daily . But unfortunately I used in the site  Carpe , to which I have much appreciation .
I ask publicly apologize to all of you , and inform you that at no time had any intention of offending friends Carpe . Dapleb thank for alerting me immensely in MP .
A word stronger today , another tomorrow , and you lose control of the forum / site .
Gentlemen, personally wanted to apologize to you guys and especially the butcher650 , but  just moment the distance becomes impossible.
Woe to all forums and sites if were not the moderators.  At age 57 , the alert Dapleb made me a better person .

As an update on the original problem, Ive had a play aboot this morn.

Took the switch off, cleaned the contacts, bent the actuator arm a bit further forward, plugged it back in and all was gravy. However, when i fitted the switch back on the bike (which was a sod), it worked for a little while, and then stopped again.

So, time for a new switch, but i dont know where to get one. Had a quick look around and to no avail.

Number on the switch says 4 B H. Presumably this is the part number?

There are udders listed for mkII, I am not sure there are actually any differences mkI to mkII but couldnae be 100% certain.

have a look at the little plunger that sticks out, is it misformed at the end inside the switch, mine had obviously got hot and the plastic deformed a bit, this stopped it moving freely so was sticking, once I had given it a quick going over with a file it has worked perfectly since
