Hi to all!

Incorrect installation of the front wheel. :hide:

After installing a new tire on the front wheel, the speedometer needle was unstable.
The wheel was removed again for verification; conclusion: 2 teeth of the sensor rotor were broken by improper installation.
I went to Yamaha dealer: € 40.11 = R $ 142.00
Pay on time and Yamaha makes the request with a minimum of 10 days for delivery.
I thought of asking for a tournament to make a aluminum or bronze, but the piece seems to be magnetized.
I removed the two broken teeth and recoloquei the rotor in place. I'm running with the bike, obviously the speedometer is not working.
Please, here are some questions:
Has anyone had the rotor sensor, broken in the assembly?
There is a cheaper alternative than buying OEM?

I made the purchase of a new piece and I am waiting
Reference in parts Catalogue yamaha page F8 number 17 = part number 5VU2517G00
Now I'm in doubt, because I think that this piece should be across the front wheel. However it appears only with the assembly of the speedometer.

Please, I need help :sorry:
1) this piece is the same as I broke in the assembly?
2) it is in the front wheel hub?

Thank you

Cheers!

You can superglue the two tangs back on, only one is needed for the speedo to work. Careful assembly and speedo will work.
Yamaha replacement part is slightly different to the original and more difficult to break. Part is magnetic.
I have had the same problem.

Hi Favs!

Thank you for your Favs return.

Knowing that the piece is really the item 17 reassures me because I was in doubt. :good:
I thought about using superglue, was in a but tire repair shop and had another commitment. I'm with the injured hand and did not want to disassemble and repair my house. I ended up making the purchase order, now is wait until the new part arrives.
Your post was very helpful to me, thank you. :drinks:

Cheers!

Speaking of speedometers . . .

My speedometer had been noisy/jumpy for awhile and a couple weeks ago the needle popped off. I took everything apart, lubed it all up (didn't look too bad), and reattached the needle. It is totally smooth and steady now!

But there's one problem, it reads really fast now. I reattached the needle so it rested on the 0 mph post. Evidently I should have mounted it so there was a little negative pressure on it.

Oh well. I primarily use the GPS for speed, so it will be a while before I get back in there to adjust the needle. Sure works well though, as long as you don't care what your actual speed is.

Hi guys!

The new rotor speedometer sensor arrived.

As Fav's already informed, the piece is different and seems to be more robust. Here are photographs of the broken part and the new part. The new part has been installed and the speedometer is working perfectly.

http://s1067.photobu...tml?sort=4&o=28

http://s1067.photobu...tml?sort=4&o=32

Observations:
the original part (old) is made with magnetized material single body including the fitting / teeth.
the new part is made into 2 parts, one with magnetised material and the second part fitting / teeth made plastic.

Now that the storm has passed, I see we have three alternatives for this problem.
1) Buy a new rotor with Mr. Yamaha. (U $ 43.33)
2) Paste the teeth with superglue, did it with the old part and was very resistant
3) To have the service of a turner. From the old part, making the 2nd engagement part / teeth in material that can be machined.

The question is whether the value pays off.

Reference in parts Catalogue yamaha page F8 number 17 = part number 5VU2517G00
Yamaha replaced the number to 5RB-2517G-00, or it is common for another motorcycle.

Note: I thank the Favs contribution. :drinks:

Warn once again; the eye of the owner is that fattening steers. ;)
So stay tuned when another person is riding the front wheel of his motorcycle.

Inform, that my problem was solved. :yeyeye:

Cheers!

iirc the Fazer FZS 600 uses the same complete sensor. I have seen a few more of these on ebay than listed as TDM ones.

My speedo needle has always been jumpy/erractic

In cold temps, it has a habit of pegging itself to top speed and then finally going back to actual speed (but always needle is bouncing higher and lower)

today on the commute in (38ºF), the needle went all the way around and broke off except for the white-colored part

so reading your post I'm wondering if I just need to lube it like you did (and repair the needle...)

thanks

My speedo on a 99 tdm 850 stopped working after getting for seals done obviously the front wheel was removed. What should I be looking for when I remove front wheel?
