I've got a Starcom1 Comms unit that I'm going to hardwire into the loom on my TDM. I'm thinking the place to put it would be in the seat hump, where the tool kit originally went. Out of the way but accessible. I only want the thing to relay voice prompts from my phone based satnav. Possibly!

Any thoughts?

To be honest, I thought I might as well use what I've already got, but that Sena SMH10 looks like it'd do the business without the irritation of wires - unless I wanted stereo music (I can live with that!).

Cheers for the tip Jono.

This bluetooth unit is so popular now, and there's quite a few on here have them! I never thought I had a need for one, but couldn't live without it now, and when your riding partners have  them it's a laugh a minute, In the old day's you pointed to something of interest, and had to wait for a rest/piss stop to explain what it was!

We've got a set of sena SMH5. They were given by a friend as a thank you. I also thought I'd never buy a set, but it has transformed the riding experience. Whether with 'rest of me' as pillion :) or a ride with our friend with his headset, chatting is great.

I confess I get confused when pairing it with devices, and am scared of knocking off another connection already done, but they are great.

Can get awkward though when out with pillion and friend, as can only talk to one at a time - have to keep pushing button to find the other person. Usually end up ignoring my pillion for the journey and she says she can hear me chatting and laughing in my helmet. (While totally focused on the road, of course. Actually, it's often discussing what we are seeing.)

His headset is a better model, so could be the SMH10, and has a bigger range than ours. So when separated, I lose him before he loses me.

Yeah, I've done the IAM. And yeah, I recommend it (any so-called 'advanced training' come to that; not just IAM): A low cost training course based on the system used by the police, which is largely common sense once pointed out, making one smoother, quicker and safer. What's not to like? And why would one not want to tell others?  :hide:

Get one, i'm nearly 4 years on the Sena, mostly for listening to music, but provides crystal clear phone calls, even from the French alps back home, can be a bit hard chatting to a Scottish perv on the intercom though, what with that funny accent  :giveusahug:

I know you get what you pay for but at £48.25 delivered, it seems a bargain

Has anyone got anything to say about the Scala Rider vs Sena? I'm pretty set on the Sena that Jono recommended but there's no rush, I might as well gather some info first.

On the other end of the scale has anyone had any experience with the el cheapo versions knocking around on eBay? Granted I can't see them being sena/Scala league but for 30 quid are they worth a punt? Be interested to hear anyone who's dipped their toe in with a low end set, either for streaming music, phone or intercom

For £30 they are what they are "Cheap", why start off at that end and find it's shortcomings, and have to ugrade to a Sene later! Sena are setting the benchmark in bke intercoms, and no way would a tight Jock like me spend that amount of dosh on something if it wasn't tried and tested :good: and when you get your Sena, log on to their website and download their updates programme and it's all free! :badgerrock:

I went really cheap for my first com. Got a Lidl unit, ditched all the loose bits it came with, got some chinese speakers with a Jack plug from the bay for 3 quit, plugged it all in my phone and had reliable sat nav for two years. The granddad option if you don't feel the need to talk to anybody and put up with one cable. The bike being the one place you don't have to listed to the wife it has its attraction.
Now I got a Sena5. My mates I tour with got different makes. This leaves us all with sat nav again as they don't pair. With the occational call from the wife checking if you will be home soon. Even when in the north of Norway!
So, cheap got its perks!

I have a set of the BT cheapo ones above and if you dont wear earplugs and only want them for wireless sat nav then you can just about manage ... but they are poles apart from the sena's..  The Sena's are tried and tested and are as good as the folks on here are saying they are .. Dont waste your money like I did, buy a Sena

The Sena's will pair with any other manufacturer make or model so they eliminate that problem. Its all about the clarity and ease of use...   The latest 20s are supposed to be better again and I have no doubt that they are but the tried and tested SM10H does it for me and the others and you can get them at a very good price at the minute

News to me (good news) but did not happen to me. Maybe the 10s or newer models do. Fact remains, Senas are great.
