hello dear TDM-experts hello dear TDM community

i am new to this forum - and yet brandnew to the TDM - at the moment i ride a Suzuki VX 800

and i muse about buying a TDM 850 / 900.

i like the VX 800 but you cannot change the gearing ratio - since the bike does not have a sprocket-chain final-drive.

Therefore i love the TDM - you could easily change everything - and customize the bike towards your needs and your driving-behaviour.

Question which was the longest /tallest gearing ratio you ever have tested?

Frontsprocket?

Rearsprocket?

Tyre size

Note: i love to hear from you - your experiences... the options we have -

which size of frontsprocket is the biggest - with the most teeth

love to hear from you

say

I swapped the sprockets, front to back and back to front. Most economical as you can use the same chain.

great idea - must be a fantastic feeling - sure others have some more insights & experience.

even more if  they probably have long-distance journeys and travels ... [which surely must be possible if you are not on Mallorca ;) the little rock in the mare med..]

You can get sprockets made in any combination of tooth count. Not too expensive. I had a 62 tooth rear made for 530 chain for £72 ( electric fz600 conversion)

900 with better bits. Owes me nothing, Makes me smile

hello dear fixitsan many many thanks - want to lower the rpms - so my intention is to

a. have a bigger frontsprocket

b. have a smaller rear-sprocket

and probably ride a bigger rear tyre....

for the front sprockets - there some limits exist - probably nothing +17 theeth will fit - since there is too less space

by the way: the TDM 900 has got a 6 gear box - is this true...
