I don't know if they still make them, but Moose had a pair of Anakee tyres on his first mk2 850. They seemed to grip ok on the road and lasted for ages. Probably worked well enough off road, but sadly he's not around any more to ask. I would think you'd be spoilt for choice on the rear with all of the adventure bikes on the market these days, but the front is a bit of an odd size.

They look like continental TKCs. Had them on my xl600lmf and were surprisingly good on the road and dirt but pants on wet grass.

17 inch front in that picture. As trevini says, 18 inch is the difficulty.
The seat has been modified for stand-up riding, tyres are off-road and front wheel made smaller. Confusing.

I wish I could remember what I had on my first tdm, I'm sure they were Michelin's, not as knobbly as the ones in the picture but certainly not pure road tyres. They worked well on the road, in the dry and wet, and on a rough old farm track I used to use as a short cut, even when it was muddy. I never "tested" them on wet grass because, well, there's only one possible outcome really...
I'll rack my brains and get back to you later.
Edit.
That didn't take long, Michelin Sirac.

I'm looking at fitting Avon Trailrider, formerly Distanzias, based on the recommendation of the owner of the local Yamaha shop. They only purport to be 10% dirt 90% road.
I shall be putting a pair of those on the DT 230 soon. The reviews are good.. Mmmmm, triple compound cornery goodness.
OP, what do you mean by off road excursions?
The TKC's in your initial pic will be gone in 3000 mls, if your lucky, and rubbish in spooge as soon as the block edges are worn. A KTM 690 rider destroyed a set over 1700km's recently, he was not being particularly naughty, either.
I believe Michelin have a "new" knobbie available for big bikes, could be an updated Sirac.
The Ducati Desert sled has Pirelli Scorpion Rally's on it. If they are anything like the MT90 At's, they are a good tire but will clog immediately in goo. The AT's were great on the road but had a flat profile, (less lean dangle) excellent wet grip and reasonable wear. Good on gravel, too. Improved braking compared to sport touring tires. A TDM will unhook anything, including snow chains, if your throttle happy.
If you want to go mud plugging, the knobbier the better, if it's all roads then dual porpoise tires like Heidenau Scouts and Shinko 705's are fine. The skinnier the better, broad tires take longer, if ever, to grip. Skinny tires cut through the spooge and find some bite. A good edge profile is important, too, as that is the bit of the tire which keeps the bike going straight. Or less sideways.
When you get into the realm of the skid demons you need momentum and to maintain that momentum, upright, you have to climb around the bike like a sidecar monkey. Once the big girl decides front and back wheels don't need to be going in the same direction it really grabs your attention.
Have fun!

I think M&P are doing a deal on Anakee's at the mo - but it's whether you'll get a suitable "pair deal" to fit the TDM.

For the 18" front you might have to use a rear tyre, some mount them backwards, depending on the profile. The rears often are 120 wide, so clearance can become an issue.
