As FixitSan has previously mentioned the MT-09 / Tracer 900 range of shocks are a great alternative to the standard TDM900 shocks.

This is the NTR R1 version of the shock for the Tracer 900.  This one is used but in great condition, no real paint chips / corrosion on the spring and the bump stop is still the original clolour.  It has a heavier 700lb Nitron black spring fitted, which handily matches the TDM's standard spring rate. The shock length is 5mm longer than the TDM9 shock - fairly negligible unless you are very short of leg.  There is a built-in option to extend the shock's bottom fork clevis by (up to) another 10mm should you want to raise the back-end.

I originally thought it would've bolted straight into place, but the top mount was not quite as wide as the TDM's frame mount. Mr Henty worked his magic, fabricating a couple of spacers (as shown in the first picture) to make the top mount a perfect fit.

I found that it rides great (obvs, it's a Nitron).

Preload adjustment tool and documentation pic now uploaded.

I'm not in the market, but I must say I had a nitron on my cbr600fx brilliant shocks and you can get the correct weight spring for your weight/style of riding, nitron will advise on that.
Also nitron are quite expensive for springs, you don't need a nitron one just one that matches the spec
