Maybe of limited interest since the topic is well discussed here, but from an average user's perspective, here are my impressions after fitting the ECU together with a K&N filter. After getting my TDM some years ago, I first unclipped the air flap wire from the harness. That helped a little with the well known snatchy throttle off-on action. Later I got a BoosterPlug, which helped more. But the ECU flash is so much better.
I plugged the vacuum line to the air flap. I'm running Remus Revolution cans with baffles.
What's lost:
Maybe 30 pct of engine braking, but not the bassy overrun engine note.
All of the snatchy throttle action
Low-gear torque restriction
A lot of vibe
What's gained:
All-round responsiveness
Slight power increase through the range and much better power in low gears
Bigger usable RPM range
I've yet to gauge fuel consumption but I expect it to be better than with the BoosterPlug, which gave a rich, smelly exhaust. I was worried about popping in the exhaust on the overrun with the elimination of the fuel cut, but plugging the vacuum line as recommended took care of it. At most there's a little burble as the revs come below 2k but virtually no popping. All round I'd say the bike just feels right. If I forget to downshift exiting a roundabout it's more forgiving and won't judder as I pick up. A quick downshift and it's up and awayyyyyy... It's generally much less fidgety to operate and feels fine tuned. Should have done this right off the bat. Very happy to deal with Samios, who answered all my questions and was a good chap to meet when I stayed in Athens last year and handed him the ECU. See the full list of features in the link.
