HawMaw performs the traditional checking of the oil routine familiar to all 850 riders. Although I mustn't take the piss as Johhny's 900 had a low oil light on saturday and needed a top-up. I bollocked him for showing up the 900s in front of the 850 riders, then my light came on on Monday morning!

I must appologise to all the 900 riders for such appauling behaviour.

I had a brilliant time and really enjoyed meeting you all. Can't wait for the next gtg.

Me and Dave got back at about 6 on sunday after setting off at half 9, so a rather long day. Did 430 miles on the way back, so I think we did good.

Here are some of my pics.

Hello peeps

finally able to post some of my piccies after getting photobucket to accept my uploads, god it's an arsey site is that !

Rannoch Moor on the journey North, as usual chaotic disorganistion .

A handsome bike in handsome surroundings

The commando monument I think - no cake though !

Sunshine in Aviemore as organised and paid for by Joe

Another ad-hoc stop - still no cake !

The Aviemore chair lift, where chairs are lifted according to AE - yes you're right, no cake !

Carpe meerkats - looking for cake ??

Glen Coe on our journey back South

The road disappearing over Rannoch Moor, a wild awesome place where dinosaurs still roam

Twas a great weekend, with great company from far and wide and great roads. Some of those Cairngorm routes were awesome.

After the misty and drizzley start JB and myself had an uneventful journey home, with a non stop leg from Glasgow to Huddersfield.

Funny thing happened though.
A trailer carrying a tractor passed us as we were having a Coke and a KitKat at the burgervan on the hairpin bend just coming off Rannoch Moor. We spent the rest of the journey South repassing it, finally putting it behind us in a tailback on the motorway just South of Lancaster.
Just goes to show how much time it takes for petrol and a piss.

Average fuel consumption for the 1150 miles - 66 mpg

Looks as though the next might be in God's county. I shall have to get my thinking hat on and rustle up a few good routes.

Just had a bit of a working out.

Total mileage 1199

Total fuel 89.95ltrs.

= 60.6mpg.

You can't argue with that, not at the speeds we were riding (Off road, and on the Highland Autobahn)

What a bloody good bike the TDM is!!

Big Dave did better, but he's a bit of a dodderer. Fancy being overtaken by a tractor!! rotflmmfao.gif

Hi Peeps, Just arrived home this morning after a great weekend with great company. I stayed on longer than originally planned due to a slow recovery rate from imbibing too much of the local fire water, and a little sojourn up to Wick to visit some friends, what a great road ride that A9 is, very little traffic, sweeping bends with enough interest to keep you from nodding off, yeah that's what we like. biggrin.gif Managed to cover 1,750 miles @ 54.9mpg, however, oil consumption was a whopping 2.4ltrs, but there again Mk1's are renown for being oil burners. Will have to decide whether to rebuild or retire her and do as Curtis Mayfield sings and 'Move on up' and get a 9er? puke.gif What do you guys think? putemup.gif

Looking forward to the next G2G.

Just a final note from me on the G2G 2009. I had a brilliant time, it was great to meet all the people that I had only conversed with previously.

Many thanks to Joe for the wonderful rideout on sunday. I have never seen scenery like that before.
For those of you who went home on sunday, look on" google images applecross photos," and see what you missed.

Once again, many thanks everyone, I will see you all next year, and I'll try not to snore too loud!

Do a compression test, then pour a bit of oil in each cylinder and do it again, my guess is you'll see an increase in compression with the extra oil due to worn piston rings, which is what I had. More info here and here. Doing the work yourself you're looking at around £200-£300, not far short of the cost of a second hand engine but at least you know the history.
