I'm pleasantly surprised, it's a lot better looking package than I expected. 261kg's is too heavy though.

190mm suspension travel (fully adjustable fork damping

), 205mm ground clearance and 19" front wheel will be fine for gravel/dirt track touring, which on spec it looks l like it will be brilliant for. It's not a trail bike, the XTZ660 is going to be better for proper dirt.

Spoked tubeless rims are interesting, wonder if they'll be as strong as normal spoked rims? Tubeless is great for roadside flat fixes on a 261kg + luggage bike.

It looks far nicer than a BMW GSA! They could be on a winner here. Wonder when Aus will get them? 2-3 years?

261Kg?????? That's about the same as my Mk1 and the girlfiends 125 together!

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

Looks quite good, but too big for the off-road shwon on the artist's impressions.

...like a BMW GS.

It'll be a pain in the backside to repair if the electrics go in the middle of the Algerian desert too.

Who will be the first to transplant the engine into a TDM???

Well there's a huge market for 4x4 vehicles bought by people, 99% of whom will never, ever take them off tarmac but just want that trendy off road 'look'.

I wonder if this is the biking equivalent?

I love it and would have one in a flash if it's as good in the flesh as it looks in the piccies but I wouldn't dream of taking it off road. I once followed 'Blez' round a section of the Hafren/Cambrian/Ryedale Rally (can't remember which) on his GS1150, me on my XR400, and I wouldn't have swapped him at that particular moment in time....it looked a real handful.

Hmmmn....a two wheeled 'Chelsea Tractor'?....there's a thought !!

I like it, but it might be a bit on the tall side for me at 840 lowest setting not unless the do a short arse kit for it.

Lots of really cool stuff on this one...

I thought this was especially cool:

Got a 23ltr tank same as my old XT600ZE Tenere got 286 miles out of that on a run so be interesting to see what this will do!
Nice bike but to many electric gadgets for me, think they should of made it similar to the new XT660z with the tubeless wheels and shaft drive.
For overland trips round the world you need something easy to look after and repair if things do go wrong in the middle of nowhere you would be fooked!

So, shall we see a new 'Tenere'-alike TDM after this 'First Edition'? This new bike design seems more suited to that? Hmm. Nice thought. There were some 'advance' pics around of different Tenere versions; I must see if they were speculative or genuine after all.

The 261 kg is full service weight, so it's probably not much heavier when compared to competitive members of the useless off-roader league (which are often specifed as dry weight). Still, it's nearly 40kg more than the TDM 900's service weight which is about the same as the massive Guzzi Quota from the early 1990's. Mind you, it's not far of a Guzzi California

Also, getting a mere 20% more power and torque out of a more than 30% bigger- and 20 years younger engine design isn't terribly impressive either. Still, it could mean (even) better engine longevity?

As I predicted, it's no longer a 5 valver but the dual ignition is a nice detail. I wonder where they'd stuck that 2nd plug on a 4 valve head?

It's bulky and it lacks the focus and exciting details of a KTM Adventurer. For that reason, I'd be very surprised if an even more bulky / less focussed TDM 1200 were in the pipeline: we are probably staring at it here. I wouldn't mind so much if it had an 18" front wheel so you can fit proper road-tyres, rather then the compromised and always unevenly wearing "all-road" rubber-rubbish.

I am slightly underwhelmed so far, but a test-ride could make all the difference.... that's exactly how I got my Buell

As promised here are the real time pictures of the new TENERE 1200 package from Istanbul Motoplus 2010 where YAMAHA officially announced the bike. The sale will not start before April and the estimated price for Turkey will be arround 15.000 Euros all included that you see on the pics, ABS, fly by wire and traction control.

Shaft is a big plus that needs no service at all

Details of the fairing

Standart Handguards at last

Overall

Rear details look nice to me

Racks are impressive and big, also has space and connections for exterior luggage, seat seems comfry

Grip Details:

Standart centerstand is a gift

also the sidestand looks pretty strong
