I have similar clunking noise on my Mk2.

I tightened the steering until it was too tight and then backed it off - so it is not that dry.gif .

I now have a different front wheel - so it isn't that either dry.gif .

It is not the calipers as it happens when not braking too - so it can't be that too dry.gif .

When changing fork oil I noticed some scuff marks and damage on the fork slider bearings but the marks looked to be only in the teflon coating - woohoo yahoo.gif , it must be that.

Can't be arsed to change them so I am living with it as it doesn't seem to affect the handling good.gif .
Red and black '96. Blue spot Thunderace calipers with braided two-line front hoses - 'kin brill. 17 incher out front. Renthal street/trail bars - vibe free. 1150GS brush guards. HIDs - niiiiice. Stebel Magnum - crikey. Nonfango hard luggage. Nexxus. SW-Motech center stand. Had a Powerbronze tall screen - too noisy - went back to standard.

Stealth Diamond Black 900 with lurvely black frame. GS brush guards. HotGrips on a relay - cos I keep forgetting. SW-Motech center stand and engine bars. LED rear light. Vario set to min. 17 incher. PR2s.

All now a fond (very fond) memory. Maybe again some day.

I reckon the clunk is the spring moving in the tube - nothing to worry about - my 850 did it - I wonder if that's why the 900 has a short spring and big spacer tube.................. unsure.gif

Fork preload or damping setting doesn't help.

Thanks for that, GG. I don't need an excuse to avoid changing the bushes but extra ammo never hurt good.gif

Ok, check out my 17 incher:

A mate has a 17 incher fitted with a low profile sports tyre which leaves a big orrid gap twixt it and t'mudguard. The Z6 shown here looks much better IMHO.

The whole setup is great. The steering now has no weight and stability is not affected. A very highly recommended mod good.gif .

What's the wheel from?

to lower the front mudguard, a few washers, or spacers, between mudguard and fork lugs will lower it

It is from a 1989 FZR1000 EXUP. The spacer on the right will have to be turned down by 2mm to fit int the EXUP dust seal.

Good idea about lowering the mudguard. As I am not short of stainless washers this will get some consideration.

I measured the two wheel diameters (including tyres) with a tape rule and calculated a 5% difference in the circumferences. This would seem to be true in practice. It is a blessing in disguise actually. Because the speedo reads high I am actually not going as fast as it says.

Is that 2mm on the dia or 2mm length.
Is everthing else OK for a drop in fit ie disc to disc length, wheel spindle dia, speedo drive etc.

Ever thought of doing the back wheel to get a matching pair of 3 spokes

It's 2mm off outside diameter. Everything else goes straight in. Using TDM spindle, speedo drive and discs.

I am not tempted to do the rear as I am happy with the Z6 and function is more important to me than form. So far I am lucky that IMHO the mods I have done fit in with both of these.

Also I do not know of a wheel that will easily fit in the rear. I did ask on this thread some while ago but the lack of response suggests it is not a common mod.
