I have been thinking about this for ages.

Read a story in a magazine once and it sounded quite a challenge.

Since then its just been there in the back of my mind, niggling away.

Has anyone done this or has any advice.

Cheers, Ivan

Did it once years ago, when there were no speed cameras and bikes (CB900 in this case) could still out run a police car, no Polish lorry drivers hugging every lane and it was fun. Probably be a lot more work now cos of traffic congestion. I'd love to do it again though.

I've often thought of going for it, especially as my sister-in-law has just done it for charity, didnt manage the 24hrs, but there again she's nearing pensionable age and rides a Harley

Would have thought the best time was mid-summer, and time the run so you ride the Exeter-Sterling motorway stretch during the night to keep up a good speed and be able to get petrol

If you'r up for it, I may well drag along in your slipstream

I never ride faster than my angel can fly

Hiya Ivan,

It might be easier to do from John O Groats to Lands End. Cos if you look at the map, it's all downhill. rotflmmfao.gif

At the speed you ride? tongue.gif
Seriously though, it's 837 miles, 443 miles on the motorway, 394 on A roads, so you'd need to do better than 35mph average, quite a feat in today's traffic conditions. You'll have to cut down on cake stops too. And don't forget the ride down to the start point and the ride back from JoG! I'd say timing was everything, aiming to get the motorway stint done in the wee small hours - somewhere between say 22:00 to 05:00. North of Glasgow, traffic is going to be less of a problem. Which reminds me, saw a re-run of an old Top Gear on 'Dave' last night while I was doing the dishes. Clarkson listed his favourite race tracks: "Donnington Park, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Scotland". rotflmmfao.gif

I can think of much more fun ways of covering 800 odd miles but can understand the challenge and if its in ya mind then it has to be done. smile.gif

Northernmost point – Dunnet Head at 58°40′N 3°22′W / 58.667°N 3.367°W / 58.667; -3.367, known also as Easter Head,
Southernmost point – Lizard Point, Cornwall at 49°57′N 5°12′W / 49.95°N 5.2°W / 49.95; -5.2
Easternmost point – Lowestoft Ness, Suffolk at 52°28.87′N 1°45.77′E / 52.48117°N 1.76283°E / 52.48117; 1.76283

Mind you, that would be a good long weekender G2G / roadtrip!

Make it challenging, do it between Christmas and New Year! in shorts.

Sounds good to do a trip like this. I have thought about doing it for charity as a sufferer of Crohns Disease I would like to raise some money for the charity NACC (national association for crohns and colitis) They do very good world for people with these conditions and the more we can raise the bteer towards research into what causes it & most of all if we can cure it!

Wow ! there's some interesting thoughts there.

Yes, motorway bit at night makes sence. There is a stamp or something with a timer on it, which proves that you have done it, so you would have to start before they close.

So timing is everything as Matlock says. also to miss the bulk of the traffic.

you would need to do it summer time just for the light, but avoiding the school and bank Holidays.

And obviously you have to get there and back so it's a Three day job.

I was thinking of doing it for charity, so that there's an added incentive.

Colin, forgot about the down hill effect, it just makes it easier coming home.

Look like its do-able, then.

Even if I drive like Miss Daisy ...... plod.gif

One for next year good.gif

Whilst riding a 900 in leather shorts! rotflmmfao.gif

Without sounding too un-caring I just want to do it for myself as they are on my list of things to do before I die!!

Would love to ride around the world but in real life that ain't gona happen!!

Drive across America in a 1967 Shelby GT 500 Mustang or (old Muscle car) and ride a bike back.....But not a Hardley!

I reckon since I'm 40 next year I better start planning my mid life crisis now!

Already going to The Ring. Hopefully rolleyes.gif

Need to take plenty of liquids, perhaps a big bottle in rucksack with a drinking tube, also need to think about other end laugh.gif there will be no time for 'comfort stops' so pad yourself up with big nappy and be prepared for a good shower after 24 hours rotflmmfao.gif

Furthest point west is a lighthouse at Ardnamurchan. Been there and it is 25 miles of single track road to get there through some of the most stunning scenery I've ever seen. It is well worth a visit if you ever get a chance good.gif
