Anyone had any experience of this stuff? POR 15 Rust Preventative paint

http://www.frost.co....ainting_v35.pdf

Found it mentioned on classic car website whilst hunting for exhaust paint options past Sperex and PJ1 etc, and it was rated.
Have a Laser pipe to fit and I want to coat the downpipe to silencers connector before fitting, and was thinking of doing downpipes before the winter weather commuting starts as they are going a bit. Was going to redo the starship Enterprise once it off too.
Looked at Ceramic coating as previous thread mentioned this lot

but wallet can't stretch that far yet unsure.gif

The US of A peeps use it ALOT as a chassis paint. I was not aware of it being suitable for high temp stuff like exhausts though. I used a matt black high temp paint when I restored the enterprise and it came up fine after careful preparation.

I've yet to find an exhaust paint that will withstand the effects of winter salt etc.
The best compromise I found for the 2-strokes was Exhaust paint on the first 10" or so then black hammerite. The hammerite won't take the temp any closer to the engine.
As 4-Strokes run hotter I used exhaust (PJ1) on the whole thing, you just have to keep on top on the rust problem.
Tried PJ1, Sperex, & Hammerite Bar-B-Q paint.

I did hear of a process that sprayed aluminum onto steel and then you just paint over the top and never goes rusty. It was in PB many years ago on a readers special. Never tried it.
You just can't beat stainless steel for exhausts

There used to be some stuff around years ago called "Pot Black" it was made to be painted onto air cooled finned engines and the twice I used it it never came off, even around the exhaust ports. I cured it after painting by cooking the bits in the oven, stunk out the kitchen and got a right bollocking. She's never let me strip a bike in the kitchen since. Them were the days!!!!!! I have used Plasticoat high temp spray paint in the past on a CBX750 and that stuff is fantastic, hard as rock and simple to apply.
Take down pipes off, remove any rust, muck, grease etc and give several light coatings of the black spray paint. when dried hard to touch you can refit on bike and leave on tick over till engine reaches normal running temp. Put bike away till day after and you have a set of georgious black down pipes that can withstand some serious heat and ready to run throu winter no problem.

What kind of preparation? I was thinking of painting my bash plate before I put it back on.
I know it will get knicked... can always repaint.....

As Fish mentions, the removal of any rust, grease, grime etc. I gave my set a good blast with a wire wheel.
