But; Never sees a motorway, don't have any here mostly town use and fast 'A' roads/dual carriageways...
Prolly those that use most oil spend more time at continuous higher rpms, that's my guess anyway!

i've put 3.5litres in since i bought it, that was about 15months & 12,000miles ago.
i normally ride quite energetically, going up and down through the gears and rev range all the way to the red and cruising at high speed (normally 90-100mph) on motorways.
which gives me about 120miles to reserve
the bike normally uses around ,1litre of oil every 4000miles.
on my recent tour around northern europe/sweden, i rode very gently as i had a pillion who wasnt used to riding.
this meant keeping the revs down, riding smoothly and cruising 50-70mph.
i only had a blast on 1 day from Malmo to Amsterdam, that was 80-90mph.
i was getting 160miles to reserve, but the bike used just over a litre(1100ml) of oil when i topped it up on my return.
at that rate, its almost as economical to ride fast, take the hit on fuel, and not have to pay for the extra oil.
so conclusion....
running the engine with a decent load (ie acceleration and high rev/speed cruising) doesnt burn much oil.
but running with gentle load (whilst it added a 3rd to my tank range) burns twice as much oil.
i hope this info is useful to someone....

Went for it's 40k mile Service yesterday - Apparently it hadn't used any oil since the 36k service in Feb!
Phew!
Got a complete change using semi-synth as per usual.
She's ready now for the Winter!

It was quite a bit less (on a level that I rarely bothered to check) when I just had it and avoided motorway (70 mph tops). I usually run 10W40 mineral or half-synthetic (depending on what Halfrauds has on the shelf). It means regular check-ups since the difference between min/max only seems to be around 0.5 litres but that's clean & easy with the watch-glass.
I can't remember having owned a (broken-in) bike using this much oil (which is interesting, since I owned Guzzis, Beemers and a Buell) but it's not worrying me yet. Given the value of the bike I will probably just ride it until the oil starts appearing from the exhaust in liquid form, then get me another one from Fleebay for a few quid and break this one for parts
