Hi - I went for a wee ride in early July , Ipswich to Ipswich , via Hesket Newmarket ( lake district ) , Fort Augustus , Ullapool, LochInver, Durness, John o Groats, Lauder, Whitby and home .. 1760 miles over a lazy 7 days .

97 TDM 9 , Givi Luggage , heated hands , sad nav ( Garmin ) , center stand , oily scott.. Now I need to get a set of tyres ( the back is seriously squared off ) , new chain and sprockets ( I have clunking ) .

Cumberland campsite at Fort Augustus - has a covered area for bikes , does cooked breakfast in the club house , good showers etc.. midges weren't too bad .

Ullapool is campsite is pretty but midge city .

Durness great views , covered in campers kitchen area with  cookers and free gas for the cookers.

JOG , campsite is ok a bit exposed and close to the sea .

Lauder campsite, camping & caravan club , £9.50 ( the others were about £8 ) good site , hard ground for pegs, hotel nearby for beer and grub .

Whitby YHA ( I'm 60 ) was really good next to the Abbey , 4 star hostel , beer in town at the Jolly Sailors was £1.80 a pint ( Sam Smiths ) .

Returned home from 1480 miles to Scotland and around, over 6 days on the 900. She ran like a dream giving 67mpg. Based myself at Oban and Pitlochry but being a little long in the tooth I settled for hotels. The roads and views were awesome. I'll try to do similar trip next year.Attached File  IMGP2012.JPG   137.14KB   0 downloads

I loved living in Scotland & it's an even better place to visit.

If you can't live there the next best thing is visiting, that's what I meant.

Great to read the contributions of Carpedians on there adventures over the border.

Makes me miss my mates up there.
