Is this the TDM replacement?
Just caught it on the WE_R1 live feed. Fine looking machine.
Oh and cannot get a pic of it.

I'm really curious to see people's real world impressions once they start selling. I really hope it is as good in real life as it is on paper.
I don't really ever see me dropping over $10K on a motorcycle, but if I was in the market for a new sport tourer, this would be it. And that's because it really seems to be a TDM replacement - sporty, but comfortable, and can handle rougher roads. I would venture to say I'd probably like the triple more than the parallel twin. There really isn't another bike in this category unless you include the faux adventure bikes like the (former)Tiger 1050 and Multistrada.
I suppose I should hope for it to fail like the original TDM - great reviews but no buyers. Then I can buy a leftover for $7500!

Lots to like about this bike, but now an 18lt tank is "large" according to Yamaha. Combined with an "estimated" consumption of 17.5kpl I'd be filling up a lot more often than I do with the Niner.

too short wheelbase, too short suspension, weeker frame? no more +200kg on board we are becoming vegetarians?? again windscreen-fairing problems? better to take Fazer1000 for extra punch!

I must say I've seen a few pictures of this and I do like the look of it a lot. Still not 100% on the look of the headlights/front end, but it looks like a great bike. Shame about the name. Mt-09 Tracer feels like a mouthful, unlike 'TDM'

Do any of you understand how you may introduce a bike in 2014 with a "slight" overconsumption of ....let's say 30% ?
What planet do you live on when you create a brand new bike and claim it will consume 0.53 litres / 100km (44 mpg US) ? A small car uses less.....

My 'niner' does 60 plus to the uk gallon, I am sure that a replacement that only does 45 - 50 mpg is really going to convince people to upgrade .... NOT.

This replication is getting annoying. Can admin sticky one of dozens of 'TDM replacement' or MT/FZ09 threads and perhaps have it glowing in neon for all to see.

I was putting them all in the SAME thread for easy reference but some peeps got their nick naks in a twizzle about it. Also not sure how "TDM related" this is? Should prolly be in Hyde Park.

I don't think it's TDM related at all as there isn't going to be replacement for the TDM, only this new adventure bike they're introducing, which has more in common with the Triumph XC 800 than a TDM.
I read it has just been announced for the American market and should be revealed at the EICMA show in Italy, so new threads are going to be sprouting up all over the place, as Carpe members seem to get all excited about a 'TDM replacement' and can't see (or be bothered to search for) that half the site has posted a thread about it. Huff n puff

I think it IS directly related to matters TDM. It is the nearest thing that Yamaha have come up with and for many on here, myself included, it will be something to replace the aged TDM with when that time comes. It has just sprouted another cylinder, that's all.

I agree with you Mudders.
Peeps should wake up to the fact that there won't be anything like the TDM turning the corner in the near future.
This is it. Be grateful.

Make the most of it now, or just move on, because it looks like you may not get another chance.

Oi agrozzle. Its a replacement as in.....if you sell the TDM and buy it! But it aint a replacement as in.....let make a new TDM but not call it a TDM!
Posted 04 November 2014 - 05:56 pm
For me it's an alternative to the TDM. A replacement would, at the very least, have to be a parallel twin. It's the outstanding feature of the TDM.

Yes, allegedly 115 bhp. There were certainly a lot of horse powers jostling around at the end of the twist grip when I tested the MT-09.

Yeah, my Niner gives the same consumption figures too. My CB750 which I owned in the nineties had the same consumption as that claimed for this new model (17.5kpl) and it had a 20l tank. I remember how great it was to move to my first TDM and have that increased range. I'd be very reluctant to move to a bike which not only had considerably worse consumption, but to make matters worse also a smaller tank.
