I have a centre stand which I've noticed often seems to get clogged up and not spring back up again. :)

A friend has suggested the springs are too loose and need to be replaced (I've looked online but can't see where to get them from. Does anyone know of somewhere please?)

When I clean the joints it works fine again, for a few weeks, and then siezes up again.

Does anyone have any other ideas about this? Should I be cleaning it or lubricating it with something specific?

(I have a belly pan fitted, which I suspect might encourage dirt to collect behind it, which is where the stand is located.) :)

:)

Yeah, I've done the IAM. And yeah, I recommend it (any so-called 'advanced training' come to that; not just IAM): A low cost training course based on the system used by the police, which is largely common sense once pointed out, making one smoother, quicker and safer. What's not to like? And why would one not want to tell others?  :hide:

Perfect, thank you Chris. I have some of that but haven't used it yet. :)

Do you clean it with something else and then work the ACF50 in, or just dive straight in? :)

ACF will lubricate and protect from rust but it can pick up dust and grit, like chain lube but nowhere near as bad. I don’t think it’s going to cure the problem. I’d remove the stand, lubricate the pivot points, get some new springs too (don’t know where, but I’d start with a bearing supplier). Keep it lubed, ACF it, etc., it’s just another service item. I’ve done mine at the same time as I lube ‘that difficult suspension bush’ - once a year.

If you want springs go to a web site called Lee springs.

Thanks Jim :)

Steve, I found the site, thank you.

www.leespring.com

Nothing found in the search for yamaha tdm nor centre stand, but they seem to make many types. :)

If it stays up when lubricated then the springs are ok, I just spray the pivot points when it stops flicking up easily.

Thanks Chris. :)

It stays up OK. It's just that it doesn't spring up when dirty so has to be pushed up with one's foot.

The centre stand on my mate's BMW GS has a far more powerful spring. So much so that no amount of dirt would stop it being pulled up. The difference is quite incredible. :)
