Just thought I'd document the process I am taking to mount my garmin XT above the main dials on my 4tx.

My thought process at this time is to utilise the existing front steel subframe welding  a solid plug at the top of the subframe and drilling and cutting a thread in there.

Use a 12mm pipe suitably bent to shape and a hole to accept a bolt or allen bolt to secure the new mount to this sub frame.

the next issue is the inner cover, poss enough slack to undo/remove the mount via the said bolt or I have bought a oval blanking grommet which will definitely give enough to access and be able to slide out the mount frame for any maintenance work.

some initial photos for concept. If anyone thinks of any better, let me know.

I'm not happy bolting a flattened end tube to the inner cover as I feel too much road vibration will crack it.

Howzabout using the two holes in the upper fairing visible in the last pic as the mounting points?

Adapt the screen bolts and use P clips to hold the tube to avoiding flattening it.

OR use a 'bar brace to provide the support, but that would be below the level of the clocks, like this on my 900:-

 - possibly adding an arm to raise the unit like this one:-

Attached File  6 DSC02721.JPG   137.61KB   1 downloads

I have a previous, skinnier brace surplus to requirements if it could be used.

Steve

where do you buy those bars from, are they available in different sizes, lengths/diameters? Iink to site if poss?

I have sat nav ball fixed into one of the handlebar brackets, no matter which one of the 4 fixing points I use the

sat nav hides something I want to see, its annoying, if I could lift it, that would help,

when I bought my bike it came with a nylon mount  (available from some Italian site I believe) that fixes across

the top 2 screen mount bolts,

I removed it, I didn't like the thought of the sat nav and mount being fixed across the plastic fairing,

have considered drilling the screen and fitting a ball direct to it, at least the weight would be spread over the entire screen fixings,

the bottom of a Madstrad screen would possibly be good for this if anyone has one for sale

thanks, I've already invested in my setup and if it doesn't work as I think it will, will try alternatives you suggested. I know Palmer products do a general fitting to lift screens which can also have a bar fitted.

After paying a lot of money for this garmin, i need it secure and about the dials. too cluttered otherwise

Ramo,

Here's what I fitted back in December 2021:-

Attached File  1 DSC02703.JPG   141.92KB   1 downloads

I can't find details of where I bought it. The length is adjustable - the central bar has a tunnel and the end fittings a narrowed section that fits inside. Allen bolts lock it. The model # is RH-B0603

I found this offer:- https://buy2fix.co.u...le-bracketblack

 - but another supplier says this is no longer available. I think this is where I bought:- https://www.aliexpre...2171632537.html

HTH

ADD - the second link has a lenght of 30cm min shown but that is overall - the eye-to-eye measurement would be less. Scale a diagram to get the value. OR the central bar could be cut down since the insert parts are long, and they could also be shortened if necessary. The locking screws are near the ends of the central piece - can't remember how far in.

Ooooo I've been toying with that idea for a while - I was thinking of stainless penny washers to spread the load...blah blah etc. I'll be keen to see the result and read the road test report :good:
