Disclaimer: What you are about to see is a bit of a mess, be nice
So, I have spent a considerable amount of time browsing this forum and the interwebs in general looking for a way to improve the screen for my tall (6'2) and large (none of your business ) self.
Some of the options I have seen that you can purchase are good if not fantastic (madstad seems to be a particular favourite of tdm'ers) however being a cheap man I elected to take the DIY route.
This forum has some fantastic threads with regards to this which I will link at the bottom. So, the following was my setup during a UK tour last June. I was using a darkojak Large screen extender which did a good job;
Excuse the red boxes (these are now Black) but this was about 4 weeks after I got the bike and couldn't wait to go on a trip
This year, I am venturing much further afield, Namely the Italian lakes via France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
During my trip around the UK I got such a sore backside that i popped into a lovely dealership somewhere near stockport I think and purchased an Airhawk seat pad. This small amount of extra height put me closer to the stream of air but wasn't to much of an issue. I now have a peaked helmet which is being pushed upwards in this configuration so I need a fix.
The below was a first draft type of deal with some rather s*** quality sheet steel which was also way to thin.The concept is a rudimentary version of expensive adjusting screen brackets. The screen is a Givi Airflow off of a Yamaha XP500 Scooter (Excuse the mess)
It would need a trim to look a bit better however given its excessive size I wont use it. It is far to heavy for any kind of bracket or fairing mounts not directly supported by the frame.
So I also considered mounting the brackets and the adjusting screen part to my current screen however that would mean hacking up my screen which i am not keen on doing.
Then this after one day (the surface rust is just from air moisture alone)
So, after further browsing, the below thread on this forum by eagle6 is what I have done and have tested on the 850 (he did this on the 900) and it is a massive improvement. I used my tall screen (not that givi monstrosity) and even without an extender the air was pushed high enough over my head to stop any buffeting. This is thanks to tilting it forward 30 or so degrees. However, due to the width of the screen low down, i am now being hit by air low down. I will be fixing this by using some leftover perspex i had to try and make a screen to make some side extensions on the screen.

I finished so late last night doing this different system that I havent yet taken photo's but rest assured images will be going up tonight. The mounting was done with anodised aluminium flat bar beaten to death with an ajustable spanner (lost my hammer) so tonight after posting my first attempt with this new system I will be redoing it with heat and a vice and maybe a little bit of adjustable spannering and then if all is well i will update here.
